Chaffetz: 'I Question' Whether Comey Memos Are 'Actually There'
Source: Talking Points Memo

Two days after threatening to use his subpoena pen to get his hands on James Comeys reported memos describing his encounters with President Donald Trump, Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) on Thursday expressed skepticism as to whether they actually existed.
Chaffetz in addition to many other members of Congress on both sides of the aisle has called on Comey to testify in a public setting and provide his memos to Congress. He serves as the powerful chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. This came on the heels of a New York Times report, based on one of the fired FBI directors memos, that Trump had attempted to suppress the FBIs investigation of ousted National Security Adviser Michael Flynn in February.
I do think in the light of day in a public setting he should be able to tell us about not only the materials, if theyre there, and I question whether or not theyre actually there, but if theyre there, and then how did he take them? Chaffetz told George Stephanopoulos on ABCs Good Morning America.
Why do you question that? Stephanopoulos asked. Well, nobodys seen them, Chaffetz said. Even the reporter that did the story hasnt seen them. Nobody I know of, even the reporter, has not [sic] actually seen these documents.

(7,524 posts)And "when did he make them" duh, you make notes right after a meeting while the points are fresh in your mind.
Lawrence O'Donnell specifically explained the term for it is "memcon" - a formal document MEMorializing a CONnversation.

(7,524 posts)Point is, Comey apparently has notes he officially documented at the time per routine (like a registered letter), and 45 has a bunch of huff and bluster.

I remember a lot of things by emailing myself so it's backed up and I can find it later.

Yeah, I get it. If you're in an hour-long meeting you take notes during. In this case, he's documenting an unscheduled conversation where he probably didn't start with a legal pad in his hand when it happened.

Then, anything that arises to show that the memos are legit - even if that admission is made by Chaffetz himself - will be labeled as disinformation coming from the"deep state."
So obvious.
