FCC kicks off effort to roll back net neutrality rules
Source: Politico
The FCC voted along party lines Thursday to begin the process of repealing Obama-era net neutrality rules, which require internet service providers like Comcast and Verizon to treat all web traffic equally.
The agency's two Republicans, Chairman Ajit Pai and Commissioner Mike O'Rielly, voted in favor of the measure, which would weaken the FCC's oversight over ISPs and eliminate the regulatory foundation of the 2015 Open Internet Order. The proposal also seeks comment on whether to scrap or modify rules preventing internet providers from blocking or slowing web traffic or negotiating paid deals for internet "fast lanes."
The lone Democrat on the commission, Mignon Clyburn, voted against the proposal.

(14,173 posts)Eliminating Net Neutrality will be like pulling the net from out from under us. Its already turned so commercial since I first signed up. YouTube without commercials...sigh. But worse than commercialism run amuck, is that the moneyed right wing ownership will make it more expensive and harder to log onto, any site that is critical of the right. Including DU.

When combined with Privacy / Security relaxation initiatives . . . they will destroy the internet . . . as we know it.
