Anderson Cooper apologizes for conjuring image of Trump defecating on his desk
Source: Washington Post
During an interview on his show Friday night, CNN host Anderson Cooper interrupted a conservative pundit with a not-so-subtle jab that he later regretted.
Cooper told Jeffrey Lord, a supporter of the president, that if Trump took a dump on his desk, he would still defend him. The host apologized on Twitter after his show, saying he regrets the crude sentence, which he followed up with an apology on air.
It was unprofessional, Cooper said. I am genuinely sorry.
The exchange occurred during a discussion about a New York Times report that claimed Trump called former FBI director James B. Comey a nut job in front of Russian officials during a meeting in the Oval Office earlier this month. Trump said that firing Comey, who was heading a counterintelligence investigation on possible Russian interference in the presidential election to help Trump win, relieved pressure from him.

(1,462 posts)I would have preferred he not apologize. Sometimes you have to be blunt to make a statement really hit the mark. Plus this is scrotus pussy grabber/golden showers. You really can't scrape the bottom of the gutter any lower than Drumpf.

(58,724 posts)I mean he is specifically on the air to defend Trump. The problem is not with him doing his job, it's that CNN thinks he is someone they should be having on the air, knowing that he will defend Trump no matter what.
CNN creates this dynamic on purpose.
I've been screaming about this since last fall! You are the first person I've seen that I can relate to. It drives me nuts that CNN pays these shills to create "entertainment." I quit watching as a result.

"I've been using this word "therefore. I just put the two words "there" and "fore" together and invented it. I like it a lot. It's like when you golf and call attention to your amazing drive. You make your swing, point and go 'therefore' and it kind of shows where something is going. I think it's going to become a huge. Big."

(5,166 posts)Crudity has been too much normalized recently. Anderson Cooper was not raised that way, and he recognized after he spoke that it went too far.
Thank you, Anderson Cooper.

(37,648 posts)He lost his footing by going too low, caught up in emotionalism. He's not a broadcaster on a show with a political bent. He's an interviewer who is supposed to be interviewing people, drawing out their opinions, and calling them on things in a professional way.
His emotions got the better of him. There's a professional way to state what he meant. That's what his apology says, if you read it. The verbiage he used. Good for him. He's usually a classy guy. Apologizing for losing his footing is classy, too.
It's different for Olbermann, the Turk, and others. That's not Cooper's job. I'm sure all other broadcasters understand, even Fox, and have done the same a time or two.

i think it *was* crude and unprofessional for him to say that. while we're all sick to death of these trumpeters i want anderson cooper to stay a little classy when he is on the telly
what i wish is that he & others would call these assholes out on their bullshit and lies. and i wish they would use the fucking word LIE instead of that softened "untruth" crap
he is a different personality than mike malloy & keith olberman who both kick ass using words. cooper, on the other hand, does it through his interviewing and reporting technique and questioning. it's better when he keeps himself *above* their level (and by "their" i am referring to trump & his batshit crazy followers)

(37,648 posts)He got carried away. There was a better way to express the thought. That sort of thing is unusual for Cooper, ever the broadcaster with pinache, class, and decorum. So it was unlike him. He is obviously really upset over Trump, as so many are.
