Controversial White House adviser and chief of staff joined Trump for trip to Saudi Arabia, but left for home instead of flying to Israel

President Trump's senior adviser Stephen Bannon, who was with the President this weekend in Saudi Arabia, did not continue with him to Israel on Sunday. Instead, Bannon went back to Washington, together with White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, in order to handle the political crises facing Trump in the American capital. 

Bannon holds strong right-wing positions on Israel, and was one of the primary voices in the administration who tried to convince President Trump to follow through on his election promise to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem. In the past, he described the far-right website he edited, Breitbart News, as "the platform for the alt-right," a faction in right-wing U.S. politics that is affiliated with anti-Semitism. He has also been accused by his former wife of making anti-Semitic remarks.
