GOP Congressional Hopeful Karen Handel Finds Herself Trailing Democratic Upstart Jon Ossoff

Source: Survey USA

The pounding President Donald Trump is taking over loose lips may be taking a toll on Republican candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in Georgia's 6th Congressional District, Karen Handel, according to a SurveyUSA poll commissioned by WXIA-TV, the Tegna station in Atlanta.

Handel trails Democratic upstart Jon Ossoff 51% to 44% at this hour, close enough in a low-turnout, stand-alone runoff to be anyone's call, though clearly Ossoff is in a better position than is Handel.

The district is Republican leaning but not Republican invincible: Trump carried the district in 2016, but only by 1.5 percentage points, compared to, say, the neighboring 9th Congressional District, which Trump carried by 58 percentage points.

Ossoff does not live in the 6th Congressional District, but voters shrug. 84% of Democrats and 21% of Republicans say the residency doesn't bother them. Karen Handel does not have a college degree, but voters shrug. 45% of Democrats and 76% of Republicans say it is not an issue for them at all.

Been through too many elections (presidential, special, off-year, etc) where it didn't pan out. I've donated, though I don't live in the state, much less the district. But, I remember the giddiness over Kentucky Senate races, Texas, Issa was going to be toast in his race in California. etc.
It's gotta start somewhere and hopefully Montana and Georgia-6 will be the first two

Government works either for us or for the billionaires.

We either turn out and vote in our own interest or enter the final stages of being fodder for the billionaires to chew up and spit out.

new like this will motivate the Repub base. We need to ensure that all these poll numbers turn in to real votes at the polls.

But, afaik, this is the first poll by a non-partisan outfit. The other polls showing the race much closer were done by Republican pollsters who seem to have used a more traditional likely voter model that favors Rs turning out more than Ds.

This poll is interesting in that the voters surveyed voted for Clinton over Trump 48-44 so it could be capturing an enthusiasm gap. It also reported that 54% of Ossoff voters have already cast ballots as opposed to 42% of Handel voters.
