Fox News Retracts Debunked Story on Murdered DNC Staffer Seth Rich

Source: Variety

Fox News said it had retracted a story about the murder of Seth Rich, a former Democratic National Committee staffer who was killed in Washington, D.C. last July and which has provided fodder for Sean Hannity, the network’s longest-serving primetime host. Hannity has in recent days promoted a debunked theory that Rich was killed in exchange for providing internal documents to Wikileaks, prompting statements of outrage from his family.

“On May 16, a story was posted on the Fox News website on the investigation into the 2016 murder of DNC Staffer Seth Rich. The article was not initially subjected to the high degree of editorial scrutiny we require for all our reporting. Upon appropriate review, the article was found not to meet those standards and has since been removed,” the network said in a posting online Tuesday. “We will continue to investigate this story and will provide updates as warranted. ”

My guess is they knew if they didn't comply they'd be sued and the bad publicity -- which has been getting international attention -- would continue. They smeared a dead person thinking they'd not get blowback, his family reminded them it's not that easy.

i finally unfriended a young family friend after she posted some right wing bullshit and when she was called on it (not even by me but others), she still left the fake post up and defended it saying she will always stand up for children. the fakeness of her post was pointed out to her directly and she would not take it down. so i gave up looking at any more of her posts ever.

Interesting Keith Olbermann's latest Resistance video shamed those journalists at Fox and laid out how deceitful they have been. Also, the so-called journalist from my local Washington DC affiliate still has the story on her twitter feed. The local affiliate kicked off the story that Fox News aired and quoted.

"Dotcom was the founder of now-defunct file hosting service Megaupload (2005-2012).[10][11] Earlier, he achieved notoriety in Germany as a teen hacker who was booked 2 years suspended sentence for selling identities that he had siphoned from telephone operators’ client database. After the closure of Megaupload, he has been accused of criminal copyright infringement and other charges, such as money laundering, racketeering and wire fraud, by the U.S. Department of Justice.[12] Dotcom has denied the charges, and is currently[when?] fighting attempts to extradite him to the United States.[13] On February 20, 2017, a New Zealand court ruled that Kim, as well as co-accused Mathias Ortmann, Bram van der Kolk and Finn Batato, could be extradited to the US on fraud charges related to Megaupload. Kim's lawyer said that he would appeal the decision."[14]

On the other hand, this Kim Dotcom dude is just a grotesque obnoxious doucehbag of the first degree and everything you hate about EDM DJs. I mean, his videos are Chuggo with much higher production values and yet far less imaginative lyrics :

Although, if he does inadvertently bring down Sean Hannity, I suppose a debt of gratitude is in order.

Still, this guy is so awful.

Hannity on Seth Rich coverage: ‘I retracted nothing’

BY JOE CONCHA - 05/23/17 05:22 PM EDT

Fox News’s Sean Hannity ripped his critics and the mainstream media on his nationally syndicated radio program Tuesday, saying, “I am not Fox.com or FoxNews.com, I retracted nothing.”

His reaction came hours after Fox News retracted a story regarding the 2016 killing of Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich after massive outcry over sharing conspiracy theories about the 2016 shooting death.

Right-wing news outlets have sought to link — without evidence — the 27-year-old’s death to Democrat Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign and the WikiLeaks release of hacked emails from her campaign and the DNC.

"For those accusing me of pushing a conspiracy theory, you are the biggest phony hypocrites in the entire world," Hannity said Tuesday.
