Source: WBAY, ABC affiliate in Green Bay, WI

JUPITER, Fla. (AP) - Police say golf great Tiger Woods has been arrested on a DUI charge in Florida.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office says on its website that Woods was booked into a county jail around 7 a.m. Monday.

Jail records show Woods had been arrested by police in Jupiter. He was released just before 11 a.m. on his own recognizance. He has been charged under a Driving Under the Influence statute.

can't be a happy person to not care about his or other lives while driving drunk. Maybe after he sobers up and completes successful rehab, he can be a spokesperson MAAD?? on edit: he was not drunk, might have been DWB in a fancy car no less and pain killers for his back problems...

He still has Nike. Unless Nike drops him.

Kind of hard to feel sorry for someone who has the world in his pocket, an easy life from here on out, who was blessed with a gift and discipline to learn a sport well, has the most beautiful women in the world who want him, tons of money, beautiful children. He lacks the talent of looking at what he has, compared to most people in the world.

Carol Burnett was speaking of one of her daughters on the The Tonight Show years ago. The daughter had a drug problem & gone into rehab. Maybe it was an attempted suicide? I don't remember. Johnny Carson asked her if the pressure of being a daughter of so famous and admired a person as she is was too much for the daughter, or hard to handle. Burnett responded, "Well, that's tough, if it is. There are people in the world with real problems. She'll just have to learn to handle the plate she's been given." Burnett was right. Some people who have been given a lot, don't understand the suffering that others endure...paraplegics, poverty, not enough to eat, alcoholic abusive parents, losing sight or hearing, etc.

There's really no excuse for a rich person his age to be drinking & driving. He can afford to hire a designated driver for the night, a cab, a limo. He could have killed someone.

I get that it is hard to feel sorry for him. That said money does not solve all your problems. Would you say the same about Robin Williams or the recent suicide of the singer from sound garden.

Mental health is a tricky thing and money is no cure all for it. And that Carol Burnett quote is heartbreaking and cruel.

It doesn't make you HAPPY, but it makes life oh so much easier. I used to be very poor, and I used to have a job that paid very well. Money DOES make a difference. You have a lot of options. It takes away worries.

Woods doesn't have a mental illness. He's a middle aged multi-millionaire who has drivers and multiple cars, so IF he chose to get drunk and drive, or do pills and drive, endangering other people, his feet should be held to the fire, just like anyone else. He could have killed children, mothers, families.

No excuses because he's a sports star.

He'll probably lose the Nike endorsement. And he should. IF he was under the influence.

and his whole life was centered around his quick mind and physicality. He was also having financial problems. So he was having REAL problems.

I don't know about any singer in a garden.

Burnett was right. Her daughter got off drugs and straightened out.

IF Woods was drunk or high on drugs, he should go visit some hospitals & visit kids with cancer, paraplegics, quadriplegics. Go to Bangladesh and visit people starving to death. People with real problems.

No...a multi-millionaire with beautiful women hanging onto him, beautiful children who love him, and millions of fans is NOT having a hard luck life. He does NOT have a mental illness.

has it that he was taking HGH and steroids during his best years on the course. Whether that's true or not? You have to admit, his body has really gone downhill since his self-inflicted marital problems. He's had nothing but ligament and muscular problems since. His temper tantrums could have been a result of steroid abuse as well.

Hey, don't shoot the messenger. I'm just reporting what I've read on Pro-Golf blogs and in magazines. He had so much success, and was on schedule to break every one of Jack Nicklaus's records. Then everything went to hell in a hand-basket.

Florida requires first time DUI to be given probation. Standard sentence is $500 -$1000. There are exceptions of course if there is an accident with bodily injuries or minors in the car.

People who drink should plan it. I did. I knew I was going to do Tequila shots and I took a taxi to and from. A car in the hands of a drunk is a lethal weapon.

his father died. I think his father was his rock. He has looked bad since the adultery/sexting scandal. I hope he is not hooked to painkillers. I know he has had several major surgeries. Anyway, I hope he is able to get his life back together for his kids' sake. Maybe he can support them the way his dad supported him.

I'm happier than Tiger and I have a negative net worth. I drive a truck for a living and I live in a 1000 square foot house. I don't use drugs or alcohol. I'll turn Tiger on to the secret to my happiness for no charge if he contacts me.

First of all, you have to dump the dope and the booze. The true nature of your problems will then rise to the surface of your consciousness. This is the reason for the painkilling drugs. At this point, most people dive right back into the bottle. You have to tackle it head-on while sober if you want to get better.

This is assuming that Tiger is self-medicating for psychological reasons. I suppose he could be in pain from an injury, but I'd think he'd have better ways to deal with that than drinking, and I'd think he'd be smart enough to not get behind the wheel while impaired if he was not suffering from psychological problems.
