At least 24 killed and dozens injured in Baghdad bomb attacks

Source: ITV

A car bomb blast has killed at least nine people in Baghdad just hours after 15 died in a massive explosion outside an ice cream shop in the Iraqi capital.

The so-called Islamic State said they were behind the attack outside the popular shop which Iraqi officials said involved a remotely detonated explosive device in a car.

The attack in Iraq's capital came just days into the holy month of Ramadan when Muslims fast during daylight hours and then break the fast after sundown, meaning Baghdad's restaurants and cafes quickly fill up at night.

The night-time attack in the bustling Karrada neighbourhood also injured 27 people, police and health officials said.

"The militant group later also claimed responsibility for the second attack, saying its suicide bombers had targeted gatherings of Shia Muslims."

It's not often groups publicise they are committing genocide. Even the Nazis tried to make their genocide less obvious at times.

their response to ongoing Sunni terror is very measured. it's largely been a 1-way street since we blundered into the country, and decades of repression prior to that.

they could be forming Death Squads. maybe they are, and I just don't know.

See eg https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2016/12/shia-militias-iraq-isis/510938/ and https://www.hrw.org/news/2016/01/31/iraq-possible-war-crimes-shia-militia

It'll be tense, however it turns out. The Iraqi government does seem to be trying to 'contain' them, as the Atlantic article says.
