Scott Pelley out as 'CBS Evening News' anchor

Source: USA Today

1:44 a.m. ET May 31, 2017

NEW YORK (AP) — Scott Pelley is out as CBS Evening News anchor, and he'll be returning to full-time work at the network's flagship newsmagazine 60 Minutes.

Two people familiar with the situation confirmed reports on Wednesday that CBS is expected to announce Pelley's departure shortly. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter.

The CBS show is a distant third to ABC and NBC in the evening news rankings, and despite some critical success, has not been able to close the gap.

Reports of Pelley's departure first surfaced in the New York Post, which said Pelley's office at the evening news was being cleaned out on Tuesday. Pelley did not anchor the broadcast Tuesday, as it was announced he was on assignment for 60 Minutes.

"Donald Trump may not be good for the country, but he's GREAT for our ratings!" - Les Moonves, head of CBS News.

I read he was a Republican when he took the job, but what little I saw
of him he seemed strictly middle of the road.

Is insHannity available?

Can't stand how ABC reports like the news is some high energy action-suspense-thriller. Yuk!
NBC does not come in on my TV.

Scott Pelley was an honest reporter regarding the trump WH. He boldly said it like it is. I think that is the real reason he is out.

First, CBS for the overview, then PBS for the in depth stuff. I liked Pelley okay--I liked his take downs of WH hijinks.

Agree with you about ABC. The way they promo the thing like it is sooo exciting--carnival barker. Same with the Sunday show, although I FF through the beginning and watch the rest.

NBC would be the last resort. We cut the cable seven years ago.

I have a feeling they'll try to get someone like Anderson Cooper.

My last go to guy shot to hell. They always blame the anchor for low ratings. That means they're going to replace him with a kiss up moron.

He has done more to set womens independence and strength in CBS shows to "I Love Lucy". He cares nothing for society and only for his paycheck. Fuck him.
