A labour activist working undercover investigating abuses at a Chinese factory that makes Ivanka Trump shoes has been detained by police and two others are missing, raising concerns the company’s ties to the US president’s family may have led to harsher treatment.

Hua Haifeng was being held by police on suspicion of illegal surveillance, his wife Deng Guilian said. Hua had worked for labour rights organisations for more than a decade and was investigating a factory in southern Guangdong province for New York-based rights group China Labor Watch.

4. The US political scene seems to be heading to that of Russia and China where

dissenters disappear. While we are a long way from it at the moment, how we handle the Trump administration and what comes out of it will be very important.

We have to redo our media and bust up the oligarchies. We have to institute reforms to bring a truth requirement and a separation of advertising from the newsroom!

Our regulatory agencies are a joke, owned by the industries they are supposed to regulate. The revolving door is a big reason for this. The FCC is no different from the others. BP advertised so heavily after the Gulf oil spill the media would not dare to report the truth for fear of losing so much money. This goes on everyday!

We allow mergers on top of mergers, it is strangling our country!
