NJ Sen. Cory Booker reportedly received past campaign donations from Jared Kushner
Source: AOL News
New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, a Democrat, is facing increased scrutiny for his response to allegations against President Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner after reports emerged that Kushner and his family have reportedly donated generously to Booker's campaigns in the past.
During an interview with CNN on Sunday, the lawmaker was asked about his view on the DNC, or Democratic National Committee's call to suspend Kushner's security clearance amid a report that he tried to create a back-channel of communications with Russia.
Booker eventually said, "I think we need to first get to the bottom of it, he needs to answer for what was happening at the time."
He then added, "It raises very serious concerns for me. And that could be a potential outcome that I seek, but I want to understand, at least hear from Jared Kushner, as well as the administration, about what was exactly going on there."

(11,252 posts)The Kushners donated to a lot of Democrats during that time, especially in NJ. And that was well before Jared emerged as the key henchman for Trump's bigoted crusade.
This idea that Democrats need to fight the GOP with one hand tied between their backs is silly.

(59,498 posts)Not to mention, Trump himself gave big donations to most high profile Democrats.
I do not know of any quid por quo in any case where a Democrat did something out of the norm for either the Trumps or the Kushners. Kushner's dad actually gave some illegal contributions to NJ Democrats in state government.
The problem is that our elections require a lot of money and in general, that means high profile events where big donors pay a lot of money to attend. Whether it corrupts the politician is a tough question. At minimum, you could ask if they ever hesitate to back something they logically would because it means that next time they don't get that money.

(12,132 posts)Mr. Booker not afraid to ask tough questions and find out answers even about people who have donated to his campaign.
I'm glad to know he wasn't bought. No telling how many craven repubs shut up right quick about things their benefactors do.

Or is Kirsten Gillibrand up next?
GBizzle
(209 posts)Not! (See, I can do it too - not that clever)
If Harris or Gillibrand start making excuses for the Trump Crime Family, they should, and will, be criticized for it. So far, neither of them has done so.

So since you know so much better all of the folks who voted for him (he wipes the floor with Repigs) - who do you suggest?

(16,066 posts)By suspending his security clearance, intelligence agencies can deny him access to all secured materials, without having to justify it!
If he maintains his clearance then he still has access and can use that information for his own gain!
And we all know that Kushner and the administration are already going to lie...and even Booker can't be so dense as to think that the White House is going to be honest with Congress, or is he, dense???

(3,040 posts)Will people start praising Chris Christie because he prosecuted Kushner's father? Hint: the reason why Christie went after his father is because the Kushner family is one of the wealthiet DEMOCRATIC donors in New Jersey.
Until Booker takes affirmative action to prevent or hinder Kushner's investigation, these attacks accomplish nothing but to harm a good New Jersey Democrat.

(3,040 posts)that this is coming from the far right because it kills two birds with one stone: 1) it takes down a prime contender for 2020 by dividing the Democratic party. & 2) it takes down Kushner by pointing out he and his family are huge democratic contributors.

(4,835 posts)Here's the thing, if Trump and Kushner accurately addresses whatever it was that they did, they may be able to push past the scandal. Blame it on someone else (Spicer maybe). Nixon could have gotten way with it if they'd found a patsy and got out in front of the watergate scandal.
When Bill Clinton first started his campaign, reports of his infidelity broke out and they hit them head on, instead of hiding.
There are plenty of people in positions to go after this administration. Booker doesn't need to push his way to the front of the line.
If he starts being sneaky then it might warrant another look, but there's no reason why he should have refused campaign contributions.
pnwmom
(108,955 posts)who hadn't personally been involved in any scandal. But some people think Booker -- and all the other Dems who accepted his donations -- should have been able to see into the future.

(30,717 posts)and needs to be aired.
Booker is on the Foreign Relations Committee. That is another good reason to try to discredit him. Trump and his people have ties to Russia, and Booker is in a position to look into those ties. Making him look bad weakens anything the committee tries to do.
