Conservative groups target Maddow

Source: Politico

Turning the tables on Media Matters, which has rallied advertisers against several top conservative talk show hosts, two conservative groups are launching new initiatives aiming to adopt the left’s tactics against liberals like Rachel Maddow.

The groups plan to pressure advertisers for left-leaning shows like Maddow’s on MSNBC, in hopes that the sponsors will pull their ads. They charge that Maddow and other liberal hosts are peddling conspiracy theories and smearing conservatives with personal attacks.

They cited reports of alleged coordination between President Donald Trump’s campaign and Russian agents as an example of the smears.

Media Research Center, the long-running conservative media watchdog, and a new group called Media Equalizer say for too long the left has successfully pressured advertisers to stop advertising on shows featuring hosts like Bill O’Reilly and Glenn Beck, who were eventually forced off Fox News, and Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh, who have so far fought off their critics.

and the liberal shows are reporting facts found in real newspapers, not made up crap. I noticed that there is no dearth of advertising on MSNBC shows. And I doubt advertisers will back off.

They had a yuge covfefe of the minds, and that's all they came up with?

Talk about missing the point! Advertisers abandoned OReilly because he's a disgusting serial predator, which they don't want their products to be associated with. Advertisers could care less about "content" as long as the person appearing before and after their brand name doesn't conjure up images of rape-y behavior.

Beck was a loony goofball who killed his own ratings. Limpbaugh makes his living shock-mocking women, the handicapped etc. while simultaneously being a hypocritical, oxy-riddled pig. It was inevitable he'd say something awful enough to make advertisers distance themselves. I don't know what Hannity's problem was but it sounds like he insisted on touting some long-disproven conspiracy, for which he was rewarded with a permanent vacation.

Rachael is squeaky clean. She's REAL. She also manages to be a fearless slayer of dragons in a cheerful and respectful manner. She's imminently likable, even to those who don't agree with her. She's also #1 in cable news, in no small part thanks to Comrade Drumph. Good luck bringing her down on account of her content.

Which side continues to push debunked, bullshit conspiracy theories after their network retracted the story?

Hannity's and O'Reilly's were justified. Good luck trying to justify Maddow.

while Hannity is a drop-out loser.

And as a note, they are going to have a hard time finding "left-leaning" shows to attack the way M$NBC has been torpedoing them, where the RW owns and runs everything else.

if any sponsors pull back from Rachel, I'll pull back from them. Sponsors should be aware that Rachel's audience ain't stupid. We will know who gives in to the wingnuts. I don't care what you make or sell, if you join this attack on Rachel, somebody else makes and sells the same thing (or at least close enough) and I'll buy from them - even at twice the price.

Rachel is the best on television. I rely on her for intelligent discussion. I will not buy from any sponsor who gives in to this attack.
