Rubio, Nelson to Trump: Force Cuba to pay for billions 'stolen' from Americans

Source: Politico

MIAMI — U.S. Sens. Marco Rubio and Bill Nelson are teaming up to lobby the Trump administration in a half-century dispute with Cuba: They want the Communist government to fork over $8 billion to compensate Americans whose property was “stolen” when the Castro regime nationalized utilities and industries.

In a Monday letter to the Trump administration, the two Florida senators also took issue with an Obama administration policy concerning a trademark dispute involving Havana Club rum and the Bacardi family.

The senators said the administration should make the billions of dollars in compensation payments from more than 5,900 property claims a priority in crafting its policy toward Cuba.

The Cuban government, meanwhile, has countered that it is owed about $300 billion from the United States stemming from the longstanding economic embargo and the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion — claims the two senators dismissed.

How about 40 acres and a mule.

Anyone care to explain the difference?

Reparations are reparations, right?

Upwards of $6 trillion (latest estimates) owed descendants of Africans brought here against their will, enslaved, bred, forced to work without pay, terrorized, and still attacked daily.

well before the Revolution.

You can always trust Rubio to tell the truth, can't you?

By the way, the landowners in Cuba were ALL given the opportunity to be compensated so long ago, just as were those who live in Canada, Europe, etc., who all, incidently, went ahead and agreed to accept compensation.

Only people in this country decided to wait it out, many of them expecting the US to invade Cuba and reverse the people's revolution, and put the racist, violent, corrupt people back in power, and return their ill-gotten gains to them. Didn't happen, although they tried with the Bay of Pigs, and decades of terrorism against Cubans afterwards.

Anyone wanting to find out more about compensation will learn, after taking the time, that these stupid claims are lazy lies told by propagandists who have found fertile ground among the intellectually lazy, and the indifferent.

People who made the transactions long ago know how off base these "exile" whoppers are.

If they left, didn't they just abandoned their property. And did they not pay taxes for all those years.
