Trump to Tangier Island mayor: Don't worry about rising seas

Source: Associated Press

Updated 5:51 pm, Tuesday, June 13, 2017

Donald Trump called him after seeing a news report about the threat the village faces from sea-level rise and its strong support for him in November.

Trump called James "Ooker" Eskridge, the mayor of Tangier, Virginia, after CNN reported on the island last week, The Daily Times of Salisbury, Maryland, reported (http://delmarvane.ws/2sxq0Jy).

"It was unreal," said Eskridge, who spoke with the president Monday afternoon.

According to the mayor, Trump introduced himself and told Eskridge, "You've got one heck of an island there."

Will these people become science-believing liberals, or will they say like Condi Rice, "who could have predicted that?"

I think that if rich deniers like the Kochs and Republican Pres Trump were forced to bet good money, there would be plenty of takers for the other side. Maybe 25 year bets with deposits in escrow accounts. A percentage could be taken off deposits plus the interest on escrow to create a fund to compensate victims.

Nah. The cowardly deniers don't really believe their own denials. They are in it for short term gain and then will move to higher elevations while their grandchildren suffer with lost species and the whole nine yards.

when their island goes under, they call it an "act of god". Nothing like attributing man-made disasters to a sky being to get off the hook for science denial.

"Your island has been there for hundreds of years, and I believe your island will be there for hundreds more."

And I believe it will be, also, too -- increasingly further beneath the waves as it transforms from an island into a shoal.

As a Virginian, I don't know what offends me more -- Trump's condescension, Trump acting like an expert about a topic he literally only learned about 10 minutes before making that call, Trump acting like sea level rise is something he can fix with just a phone call, Eskridge being a lickspittle toady fanboi, Trump making time to call Eskridge *ONLY* because he's a lickspittle toady fanboi, the outright refusal of both men to acknowledge scientific data or the merry anti-intellectual mutual handjob they gave each other...

The news story pointed out that 87% of Tangiers 450 residents voted for the Orange Shitgibbon. That's why he called the Mayor of Tangiers.

His call was totally to stroke his snowflake ego. The fact that the island is sinking was just a side note.
