The head of the Michigan health department has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in Flints lead-tainted water crisis.
Nick Lyon is accused of failing to alert the public about an outbreak of Legionnaires disease in the Flint area, which has been linked by some experts to poor water quality in 2014-15.
Charges were read Wednesday in a Flint court. Lyon is the highest-ranking official to be charged in the state attorney generals investigation.
Flint began using water from the Flint River in 2014 but didnt treat it to reduce corrosion. Lead from old plumbing leached into the water system.

(70,551 posts)Flint used to get its water from Detroit which got its water from Lake Huron
but w/out the city of Flint as a customer "they" could show that Detroit's
public water system was not making money and they could sell it off to
people like the Koch Brothers.
BTW shortly after Flint changed its water source an office building
in Flint that had State of Michigan employees in it started using
bottled water.
