Sanders condemns shooting by gunman who volunteered for his campaign

Source: Politico

By POLITICO STAFF 06/14/2017 12:09 PM EDT

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Wednesday condemned the shooting by a gunman who had volunteered for his presidential campaign, calling the attack that wounded House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and others a "despicable act."

"I have just been informed that the alleged shooter at the Republican baseball practice is someone who apparently volunteered on my presidential campaign," Sanders said in a statement. "I am sickened by this despicable act. Let me be as clear as I can be. Violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society and I condemn this action in the strongest possible terms."

Sanders ‘Sickened’ That Shooter Was Campaign Volunteer

Senator deplores ‘this despicable act’

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders said he was “sickened” by the fact that the person who opened fire at Republicans practicing for the Congressional Baseball Game was a volunteer on his 2016 unsuccessful presidential campaign.

Speaking on the Senate floor, the Vermont independent called the shooting a “despicable act.”

“Let me be as clear as I can be: Violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society and I condemn this action in the strongest possible terms,” Sanders said. “Real change can only come about through nonviolent action and anything else runs counter to our most deeply held American values.”

Sanders said he sent hopes and prayers to House Majority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise, who was shot, as well as the staffer and Capitol Police officers who were injured.

That'll be the RW spin on this and the freaking SOB shooter just did grave damage to his idol and cause. What a stupid asshole he was! I like to think of liberals as the good guys, but think in general I'm right about this, but obviously and sadly both sides have idiots.

For all the violence caused by Trump supporters never once has Trump condemned actions taken because he is a coward and a fraud.
Bernie is the exact opposite which is why he has so much support.

...over Clinton arguing that he would bring about a revolution. As noted in the article, Sarandon was not perturbed that the creation of such crisises often precipitates violence.

That particular distinction is not a part of your initial premise, so I can certainly understand why you need to both broaden and rationalize it as such only after the fact...

This is what Hayes was asking Sarandon to clarify. She was using a Leninist model of revolution, but was ignoring the violence and upheaval that such revolutions entailed.

19. It's a good thing that Sanders has never tried to politicize a shooting of a Democratic politician
