Mali tourist resort 'under attack'

Source: BBC

A tourist resort in Mali popular with Westerners is under attack by gunmen.

The country's government said "suspected jihadists" were behind the assault, AFP reports.

Nearby residents reported hearing shots fired at the luxury destination - Le Campement resort in Dougourakoro, to the east of the capital Bamako.

The government says the attack is ongoing. Malian troops and soldiers from France's Bakhane counter-terrorist force are at the site.

The worst part, is that it's going more or less as intended (much to the defense mafia's delight).

then it would make more sense to put that on the French. Unless you can be more specific with how Bush, Obama, or even Trump had anything to with the situation in Mali.

"It is a jihadist attack. Malian special forces intervened and about 20 hostages have been released," Salif Traore told AFP.
"Unfortunately for the moment there are two dead, including a Franco-Gabonese."
Government troops battled the gunmen at the luxury resort Le Campement Kangaba, east of the capital Bamako.
"Security forces are in place. Campement Kangaba is blocked off and an operation is under way," a security ministry spokesman told Reuters earlier.

But any time I read about tourists being attacked, I am going to assume the monkeys got there first.

Mali forces kill five militants involved in resort attack

Malian security forces have killed five militants involved in an attack on a luxury resort popular with Western expatriates outside Mali's capital Bamako, the security minister said on Monday.

Unidentified gunmen attacked the resort, Le Campement Kangaba on Sunday, killing two of the guests. Security forces have rescued 36 residents, including 13 French citizens.

"This was without doubt a terrorist attack," Security Minister Salif Traore told Radio France International. "The anti-terrorist forces arrived on the scene immediately afterwards. Five terrorists were killed ... The operations continued throughout the night.

Traore said the militants had some accomplices who had not been killed or detained. On Sunday night, authorities reported that two of the assailants had been killed.
