White supremacist from Vice documentary denied bond

The white supremacist protester featured in the Vice News documentary about the racially charged demonstrations in Charlottesville, Va., last month has been denied bail, according to The Daily Progress.

Christopher Cantwell is charged with illegal use of tear gas, phosgene or other gases and malicious bodily injury by means of a caustic substance or agent.

The charges stem from Cantwell's involvement in a march at the University of Virginia, in which white supremacist protesters clashed with counter-protesters. The march took place one night before violence engulfed the normally peaceful college town, claiming the life of one person.

Cantwell was profiled in a Vice News documentary on the white supremacist movement and their involvement in central Virginia, where many came to protest the removal of a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee.
