Comedian Shelley Berman Dies at 92
Source: The Daily Beast
Legendary comedian Shelley Berman died early Friday morning at his home in California from complications of Alzheimers disease. He was 92. Berman got his start in the Chicago comedy scene of the 1950s, alongside comics like Mort Sahl and Bob Newhart. He was known for his extended telephone monologues, performed while seated on a stool. In 2008, at the age of 83, Berman received his first and only Emmy nomination for playing Larry David's father on HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm.

(5,376 posts)He was one of my favorites back in the day, along with Nichols and May. Never failed to bring a much-needed laugh. I still have their albums. I seem to recall Shelley was on one of those detective shows (Peter Gunn, maybe?) where he played a comic who killed his wife. No laughs there, but what a performance!
Rest in peace, Shelley. And thanks for the great memories .

(1,580 posts)He's on the panel of "What's My Line?" and goes into hysterics questioning the man that made President Kennedy's rocking chair.
The fun starts at 15:32

(39,405 posts)Half of us weren't quite sure who he was, but he was glad to talk to us about the craft of writing, and hung out until everyone else was ready to go.
Then I started noticing him in movies and old TV clips later, and later still when he turned up on CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM as Larry David's dad.
