The White House announced Friday that President Donald Trump will nominate Rep. Tom Marino of Pennsylvania, a campaign supporter, to head the Office of National Drug Control Policy, a role commonly known as the drug czar.
Marino had previously withdrawn from consideration for the role in May, citing a critical illness in the family.
Marino, 65, was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as an attorney for Middle District in Pennsylvania, a role he held from 2002 to 2005, before returning to private law practice. In 2010 he defeated incumbent Democratic Rep. Chris Carney in Pennsylvanias 10th Congressional District and is now serving his third term.
Marino declared his support for Trumps presidential candidacy in February 2016, which at the time made him the fifth Republican congressman to do so.

(127,279 posts)The 10th (marked as medium blue) runs along the northern border and curves around the NE corner of the state on one side and down into Central PA on the other side. It was drawn in conjunction with the redraw of the 11th & 17th districts to dilute the blue NE PA (Scranton/Wilkes Barre) area.
We need to go after that seat big time since it was D from 2006 - 2010.
Some good info on the district from back when Marino was first nominated in April (and declined at the time) - https://decisiondeskhq.com/news/pa10-our-likely-next-special-election/
Per the above article, the following would apply should Marino go on and resign his Congressional seat to take this position -
So where do we stand now? Our friends at Red Racing Horses lay it out nicely:
After Marino resigns, Gov. Tom Wolf will have 10 days to set a date for a special election, which must take place at least 60 days after the vacancy. It does not appear that there is a deadline for the special election, and with Pennsylvanias statewide off-year primary occurring too soon (May 16), Gov. Wolf may choose to wait things out and schedule this to coincide with the November 7 general election. There are no special primaries in Pennsylvania, so candidates will be selected by the state party committees, using party rules. Republicans hold a convention of party officials from the counties within the district to select their nominee. The Democratic nominee will be chosen by the statewide partys 50-member executive committee, based on recommendation from county party leaders.

We need this seat!!!! The hope is some of the Drumpsters up there have learned their lesson and assuming Marino does resign and this moves forward to a special election (each party chooses the candidate to run in the special to fill the rest of the term), then it would probably happen at the time of the General election this November and it would behoove any Ds up there to come out and make their voices heard. Expect that this would need to have a blue dog/moderate D given the current composition until the next district redraw.
