SUNLAND-TUJUNGA, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A brush fire raged through more than 2,000 acres Friday in the San Fernando Valley and led to hundreds of evacuations as it spread quickly amid windy, hot conditions north of the 210 Freeway.

The La Tuna Fire was burning in heavy hillside brush in the Sun Valley and Sunland-Tujunga areas.

It began moving over the hills toward Burbank late Friday night.

Mandatory evacuation orders were issued for the Brace Canyon Park area of Burbank. Those Burbank streets under evacuation orders included Haven Way from Joaquin Drive to the top of the hill, Olney Place, Remy Place, Mystic View and View Crest.

The city of Los Angeles is under siege from a bushfire which the city's mayor has described as the largest in its history.

The fire, which is burning in the La Tuna area in the north-east of the city, has consumed about 2000 hectares of brush in the San Fernando Valley's Verdugo Mountains.

Only 10 per cent of the fire is contained, officials say.

Around 700 homes have been evacuated, roughly 550 of them from the Burbank and Glendale areas, which are adjacent to the fire.

The Burbank neighbourhood is also home to three of the city's biggest film studios, Universal, Warner Bros and Disney.

Some 500 firefighters have been deployed to fight the fire.
