Trump pitches in at shelter for Harvey victims

Source: Associated Press

HOUSTON (AP) — President Donald Trump cupped a boy’s face in his hands and then gave him a high-five. He lifted a girl into his arms to give her a kiss. He snapped on latex gloves to hand out boxed lunches of hot dogs and potato chips.

On his visit to a shelter for storm victims Saturday, the president declared he sees “a lot of love” in the wake of devastation left by Harvey. “We saw a lot of happiness,” he told reporters after he and first lady Melania Trump greeted children in the kids’ zone in NRG Center, an emergency refuge for people who were forced out of their homes. “As tough as this was, it’s been a wonderful thing.”

It was his second trip to Texas in a week, and this time his first order of business was to meet with those affected by the record-setting rainfall and flooding. He’s also set to survey some of the damage and head to Lake Charles, Louisiana, another hard-hit area.

That interaction was missing from Tuesday’s trip to Texas, which was criticized as being off-key for a presidential visit to discuss communities in crisis.

He's actually not a dumb guy, at least I don't think so. In a way that makes the evil he does even more horrendous; GWB was a brainless pawn DJT might be a bull in a china shop, but that is something more powerful and with greater potential than an idiot puppet with Cheney's hand up their ass...

My real hope (totally naive ) is that if some great Spirit could convince him that the greatest legacy he could leave, that the biggest the TRUMP name could be writ large in history, would be peace in the middle east, or an actual functional healthcare system, or actual progress on combatting climate change, he really is energetic and capable of harnessing the creativity and energy of others...
...Of course, if Hitler had made it as an artist and ended up as an art teacher......

I do wonder if this is going to make people go all soft and say, aw, he ain't such a bad guy. They will forget about his policies about the FEMA budget. Those cute little kids he is interacting with...what does he want to do with their education and health care.

And there has been nothing wonderful about watching this, except maybe for people helping others and that can be seen without there having to be a destructive hurricane and flood, if you don't live in a bubble.

It is nice to see what looks to be a genuine smile on Melania's face. The way her face looks, it seems like she has not let herself do this much. A face should be a road map of life at her age!

Sigh. I guess he's TRYING to express the fact that despite everything the spirit of Houstonians is strong, and people are trying to keep their chin up, but jeezus he makes it sounds like they love sleeping on cots and having their homes washed away by flood waters.

I wonder if Melania wore her stilettos again today?

That is her in the ball cap and most likely brand-new chambray faux work shirt. Can't see what's on her feet, but I suspect this is the second time those brand-new sneakers have been on her feet. Looks like she also used a regular make-up brush, rather than the trowel she usually uses.

I know. Meow. But, I am so fucking sick of these grifters and their tone-deaf performances, I can't stand it anymore.

It's an abuser's technique for pulling their victim back into the abuse, so the abuser can hit the victim again.

It's the same behavior as: "Baby, I'm so sorry. I can change. I'll never do that again. Let's get away, let me buy you something expensive, let me prove how much I love you."

This is how the wheel works. The only winning move is to break the wheel and get out.

Sometimes the President just needs to put a human face on and be seen helping.

If he were a normal President, this would be great. Since we know what he is, this just all comes off like a patronizing bit of theater.

He wore the rubber gloves but kept shaking people's hands and then handing out more food without changing them. Shame he did not go until he was shamed into it. They both could take lessons from the Carter and Obama families.

No, not saying Trump's Hitler. But fuck this propaganda shit. Just follow the actions, not the act.

He's literally an actor, for 14 years on Celebrity Apprentice and a professional marketer, propagandist, extremely concious of his public image, and has no empathy.

Narcissists appear warm, witty, and charming. It's an act. Hitler could seem warm. He was witty. I understand thats difficult for normal people to understand, but daily he proves it over and over and over.

He was ready to repeal the ACA in its entirety, leaving 33 million with no coverage. He's involved his own children and family in likely criminal acts. I could go on forever.

You can't be a pathological liar unless you're a sociopath. Watch him lie. People with a conscience express non-verbal guilt when they lie. There's just a blank look when he lies about the most egregious things.

I'm peeved at the gullibility of the human race and the power of superficial mannerisms and denial.

One day of acting like any decent human being would won't erase the long history of being a conman, cheater and all around jackass. He was probably proud of himself today for his performance, but it will back to business as usual tomorrow. We know he is incapable of change for very long and as soon as he gets peeved about something or imagines that he is not being treated fairly, we will see the real tRump emerge again. Do not be fooled. tRump showed us who he is a long time ago. The guy we saw today was the phony, the actor. And tRump, no doubt, stuffed him in the trash can once he was aboard AF-1 on the way back to DC.
