Haley at UN: North Korea is "begging for war"
Source: Axios
Dave Lawler 14 mins ago
U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley is taking part in an emergency Security Council meeting on North Korea, lobbying for "the strongest possible" response to Saturday's nuclear test. At the top of the meeting, a top U.N. official said the blast was 5 times as powerful as those resulting from the attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Some quotes from Haley:
"We have taken an incremental approach, and despite the best intentions, it hasn't worked."
"War is never something the United States wants, we don't want it now, but our people's patience is not unlimited."
"We have kicked the can down the road long enough. There is no road left."

(92,136 posts)against NK, is force NK to use any nuclear weapons they have, and while no doubt NK would cease to exist, the damage it would cause in human lives, suffering, and the economy would take at least a generation to recover from
We are in a "peaceful co-existence" situation right now, and it serves no country's interest, including NK to have a war

While not direct government policy, that verdict of how the country should react amid the unfolding nuclear threats from the U.S. and North Korea is contained in an editorial in the influential Communist Partyrun Global Times newspaper Friday."

(92,136 posts)and prevent a war.
I do not believe the U.S., or NK would do a first strike. In fact I do not believe there will be a war between the U.S. and NK because of this. It would not serve anyone's interests. NK's strategy is to do what it is doing in hopes to set up a deterrent to keep the U.S. from trying to overthrow its government.
This reason is based on our invasion of Iraq. It was clear that the U.S. knew that Iraq did not have WMDs, because if Iraq actually did, and the capability to launch them, the U.S. would NOT have taken the chance and pre-emptively invaded.
That is the whole theory of "peaceful co-existence".
However, if hypothetically the U.S. were to do a first strike, the way it would unfold is they would give China an advance warning of such a strike, and as long as it was "limited", would not engage militarily against the U.S.
A war on the Korean peninsula would not only cause a huge number of casualties, but send the world into an economic collapse.

(12,448 posts)Perhaps it's best not to give it to them? But that's not exciting enough for the Orange Monster.
Kim Jung-Un is a wacko, but he's not suicidal. He (or his generals) knows damn well what'll happen to North Korea if he attacks the U.S.

(12,882 posts)The male "head" of the household had had enough arguing and finger-pointing thru the week prior. He finally "lost it" Tuesday evening - when he concluded that he couldn't intimidate household members into doing as he desired. (Cleaning up the house, if you can believe that!) He took his gunmetal gray 9MM and dispatched his 28YO stepson, then his wife, then himself. Problem solved. Of course, there was only domestic fallout in that case. The kind of fallout these two ego-oriented buffoons want to give us will be the gift that keeps on giving.

(10,115 posts)I get a little tired, especially from the likes of Chris Matthews, gushing over her for the removal of the confederate flag. She only did it when it became an issue that had no going back to it's removal. And I have no trust in her at the UN. She blows with the wind and speaks for a lunatic.

(32,079 posts)Everything you say about her is true. You are right not to trust her. She's nothing but an opportunist, who is as corrupt, stupid, and dishonest as everyone else in this current administration. She is another in the long line of Trump appointees who are completely unqualified for the job they were given.
