Schumer threatens add Dream Act to all bills that move this fall

Source: The Hill

BY ALEXANDER BOLTON - 09/06/17 10:41 AM EDT

Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.) said on Wednesday that if Republicans do not bring to the floor a bill to protect an estimated 800,000 illegal immigrants brought to the country as children from deportation, Democrats will try to attach it to any must-pass legislation that moves this fall.

“If a clean Dream Act does not come to the floor in September, we are prepared to attach it to other items this fall until it passes,” Schumer announced at a press conference with House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) and other colleagues.

Democrats made the threat after President Trump announced he would rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which former President Barack Obama implemented in 2012.

Trump gave Congress six months to pass legislation to address the future status of these immigrants.

Bitchy Mitchy has shown to be willing to do almost anything to keep the deplorables riled up - and the way he must see it, a protracted fight on the Dream Act is just what Dr. Machiavelli ordered.

As if the GOP didn't have enough problems getting bills through congress, they are now going to have to contend with this issue at every juncture. There's already bipartisan support for a bill that goes much farther than DACA, and Trump might as well have gift wrapped it.

I know he hasn't always been a perfect messenger but he has been a good minority leader. Would love to see what he could do as majority leader.
