White House Names Charities Receiving Trumps Hurricane Harvey Donations

Source: Talking Points Memo

The White House on Wednesday listed 12 organizations to which President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump had pledged to donate a total of $1 million as part of their Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.

Two organizations, Red Cross and Salvation Army, together received a majority of the sum, at $300,000 each. Reach Out America and Samaritan’s Purse each received $100,000. The remaining eight organizations — the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Catholic Charities, Direct Relief, Habitat for Humanity, Houston Humane Society, Operation Blessing, Portlight Inclusive Disaster Strategies and Team Rubicon — each received $25,000.

Four of the organizations are religiously affiliated. Two, the Humane Society and ASPCA, deal with animals. One, Portlight Inclusive Disaster Strategies, describes itself as facilitating “a variety of projects involving people with disabilities, including post-disaster relief work.” And Team Rubicon draws on the “skills and experiences of military veterans” and first responders following disasters.

TPM has reached out to each organization in an attempt to eventually confirm that they have received the money the White House claims they will.

edit: looks like only the top two he gave to. Still don't trust this isn't some sort of shameless bribery tactic.

disaster relief work. Their church work may be a different story, but I don't involve myself with any church's work.

As of yesterday, his Press mouth piece said Trump was waiting for the media to tell him who to do doante to!
Think about that for a minute....
the "lying media" to give him direction.

Here are the organizations he claims he's giving money to.

Red Cross: $300,000. The US Affiliate of the International Committee of the Red Cross. Not religiously affiliated.
Salvation Army: $300,000. Officially a fundamentalist Christian church.
Reach Out America: $100,000. I think this is the one: http://www.reachoutamerica.us/our-story/ Its "about" page frequently refers to it as a ministry.
Samaritan’s Purse: $100,000. This is Franklin Graham's church.
American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals: $25,000. Not religiously affiliated, so far as I can tell.
Catholic Charities: $25,000. A branch of the Roman Catholic Church.
Direct Relief: $25,000. Mission similar to that of Doctors Without Borders, though the two groups are not related. Their site repeatedly stresses they aren't a religious group.
Habitat for Humanity: $25,000. Very, very hard-right Christian group.
Houston Humane Society: $25,000. Not religious.
Operation Blessing: $25,000. Founded by Pat Robertson. Extreme Christian focus.
Portlight Inclusive Disaster Strategies: $25,000. Not religious, so far as I can tell.
Team Rubicon: $25,000. NGO founded by two retired US Marines. Not religious.

Except for the Red Cross, everyone who got more than Trump's $25,000 Finger In The Eye is run as a church. And three of the groups who got the $25K are also churches, or church-owned.

BTW, one of the financial gurus on MSNBC reported last week that Trump giving $1M donation is like me or you giving $100....it's nothing for a so-called billionaire
