WASHINGTON Speaker Paul D. Ryan on Thursday said that he understood President Trumps motivation for reaching a deal with Democrats over Hurricane Harvey aid, the budget and the debt ceiling but acknowledged that he continues to think it could be risky for the economy.
What the president didnt want to do is have some partisan fight in the middle of the response to this, Mr. Ryan said, referring to the hurricane, during a live interview with The New York Times. He wanted to make sure we had a bipartisan moment.
The remarks were Mr. Ryans first public comments on the matter since Mr. Trump blindsided Republican leaders on Wednesday. Before Mr. Trump made the deal, Mr. Ryan called such a strategy ridiculous. It was not the only difference of opinion between Mr. Ryan and Mr. Trump.
Mr. Ryan also suggested that Mr. Trumps proposed corporate tax rate of 15 percent was unrealistic. He said that getting the corporate tax rate to the mid to low 20 percent range was more likely and would make American businesses more competitive with those around the world.

(15,722 posts)Ya know, an argument like "Mr. President, by raising taxes and increasing government revenue, you'll have a bigger pot of money to steal from" would work!
:thumbsdown
ACA repeal is trying to come forth again.

(12,564 posts)That should pretty much wipe out the Trump/GOP agenda, if he's using them as an excuse for making bad deals to avoid partisanship in Congress. Hopefully he'll be gone by the end of the year, and we won't have to see if he makes the same mistake twice.
I think Donnie Two-Scoops is going along with the Dems was (1) because he's a cowardly negotiator, (2) he's pissed at Turtle for not passing anti-Obamacare, (3) by sabotaging Congress he can continue playing the "outsider" (i.e., victim) card, (4) he can't think strategically, only, "What's best for me NOW?" and (4) he doesn't give a shit about what happens to the Repugs during the midterms (see #3).
Also, despite his name being on the cover, he did not write "The Art of the Deal." The true author has given some pretty damning descriptions of tRump, including saying he only did it because he was a young author and needed the money.

Please.
Don't insult our intelligence, Ryan.

Personally, I'm looking ahead to the inevitable 2018 impeachment hearings.

Sorry, trashy, a mess, probably has bugs crawling on them, shady, low, beneath everyone, can't trust, to engage with is to bring yourself down.
