Trump to Monitor Hurricane as His Cabinet Descends on Camp David

WASHINGTON President Trump will monitor the impact of Hurricane Irma from the presidential retreat at Camp David on Saturday, officials said, as he holds the fourth full cabinet meeting of his presidency to discuss how to advance his administrations priorities during the balance of his first year in office.
Aides said Mr. Trump would receive hurricane briefings throughout the day as the powerful storm marches toward the southern tip of Florida, forcing millions of residents to flee the impending surge of water and brutally strong winds.
With gratitude for our first responders, and prayers for those in the storms path, America stands united and I mean totally united, Mr. Trump said in his weekly address, which was released Friday evening.
Administration officials expressed confidence on Friday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency had the resources to respond to Hurricane Irma even as it continues to deal with the aftermath of the flooding in Texas and Louisiana from Hurricane Harvey.

Huh. Don't worry, people. Trump's on it.
Now I feel a million times better - knowing how fucking stellar his leadership skills are.

(4,483 posts)such a "tell": "--and I mean totally united". Just another meaningless phrase intended to strengthen what he's just said but which (as professional speechwriters know) has exactly the opposite effect.
And what's with the love affair with Camp David? What's Bedminster--chopped liver?

(47,370 posts)It jumped right out at me. We've seen him do it so many times, as if he is reading a statement for the first time and has to add a personal touch. Could the man be any more obvious?

(9,426 posts)she had nothing to say about the pussy grabbing comments. Is that just standard procedure around the tRump gold plated mausaleum? (sp?)It is not as though she is some raving beauty, that the politicians swoon when she appears. Just like Kim Kardasian, WAY too much Botox and plastic surgery. Her daddy may think she is something special, but the appeal escapes me.

(1,002 posts)NOT! Yeah, Trump has everyone's backs alright. Another heroic thing he proposes to do is to cut back on HUD's affordable housing programs. Oh, yeah - and the cuts and outright censorship of any governmental mention of "global warming." Let the oligarchy continue to rise and let we the people continue to drown!

(47,465 posts)Spouses were invited, though Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, the husband of Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, will not be attending because of a scheduling conflict, according to his spokesperson. McConnell and Trumps relationship, already rocky after the failure of the Senate to pass the president's health care reform over the summer, hit a new low this week after Trump unexpectedly sided with Democrats to strike a deal on the debt ceiling.
