Mnuchin: Trump will 'demand' increase in military spending

Source: The Hill

BY REBECCA KHEEL - 09/12/17 10:08 AM EDT

President Trump will “demand” an increase in military spending when he and Congress negotiate an end-of-year budget deal, his Treasury secretary said Tuesday.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said at a conference that Trump agreed to a three-month budget deal last week because the alternative was a one year-deal, which would have hindered military spending.

“We could have done a one-year deal on the debt ceiling," Mnuchin said at the "Delivering Alpha" conference presented by CNBC and Institutional Investor.

"Had we done that, it would have been linked to one year of additional funding for the government. But the president wants to raise military spending," Mnuchin continued. "The president wants to increase military spending, and that's something he's going to demand for December."

Spending on social programs that actually benefit average Americans? Screw those takers, let's slash their budget. Freaking disgusting.

I worked in the defense industry. We had money to burn. With cost plus contracts there was never any worry about budgets for our departments, buying new equipment even if it were for a project that took three months and we could have done without it. Our one tiny department (9 engineers and 1 secretary) pissed away millions. You had to spend the money or the next year you didn't get allocated as much. I'm sure that is how many in defense operated. That is how they could ask for more and more each year. Defense is such a scam. Just make up a boogyman and scare the people.

to "certain" off shore money laundry accounts. It's theft and and it's impossible to detect. Military waste is the 800 pound gorilla in the room and everyone fears crossing the defense cartel.

AND he'll want to balance the budget.

The current deficit is about half a trillion dollars - which, in case the GOP hasn't noticed, is a third of what it was when President Obama was inaugurated.

Trump demands:
1. Massive increases in defense spending
2. Massive tax cuts
3. That fucking wall which he insists Mexico will pay for, even though:

Trump has already been saddled with:
4. Disaster relief spending in the Hurricane Harvey impact area
5. Disaster relief spending in the Hurricane Irma relief area

Trump will also be hit with:
6. A major increase in the Secret Service's budget allocation because no president's family has been as expensive to guard as this one

He may also be hit with:
7-15(?): more wars because the guy excels at pissing off heavily-armed foreign tyrants

And he expects:
16: the budget to be balanced before he's voted out of office, impeached or keelhauled, whichever comes first

Now how in HELL is all that going to happen?

Reagan once said, "deficits don't matter."

What he really meant was, as long as tax cuts or defense spending caused the deficit, or the president is a Republican, deficits don't matter. Let a Democrat get in there and...hoo boy! Every nickel of deficit spending suddenly becomes cause for alarm.

They're okay with outrageous debt IF there are lots and lots of tax cuts to go along with it and IF a Republican is president. Otherwise?
