Source: The Hill
Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) announced her support for a single payer bill Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is set to release Wednesday afternoon.
Hirono is yet another Democrat announcing they would support the legislation in recent days. The legislation has received the backing from some high profile Democrats seen as potential 2020 presidential contenders, such as Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.), Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), Cory Booker (N.J.) and Kamala Harris (Calif.).

I support universal, affordable, accessible and quality health care as a right, not a privilege, Hirono tweeted Tuesday. A single payer, Medicare for All system is a strong articulation of this principle, which is why I support this bill.

(6,042 posts)and Conyers has already introduced his own single payer bill with 100 House members. He has been introducing single payer bills for year.
Pelosi wants Democrats to concentrate on defending the ACA,
and also does not want this bill to be used as a litmus test for Democratic Party candidates.
What is going on behind the scenes on all of this?
John Conyers has already introduced his single-payer bill this year. His bill opens Medicare to people younger than 65.

More than 100 Democrats in the House have signed on to a single-payer bill introduced by Rep. John Conyers of Michigan called Medicare for All because it would eliminate the current 65-and-older requirement for Medicare.

(51,582 posts)After McCain grand stranded the thumbs down to the ACA repeal I called Hirano to thank her for coming to vote while she has stage 4 cancer. McCain is not worthy of my thanks...he currently supports the Graham Cassidy Amend and I do not trust him for a second. He is GOP through and through.
