Martin Shkreli jailed after Facebook post about Hillary Clinton

Source: Washington Post

A federal judge on Wednesday revoked the $5 million bail of Martin Shkreli, the infamous former hedge fund manager convicted of defrauding investors, after prosecutors complained that his out-of-court antics posed a danger to the community.

While awaiting sentencing, Shkreli has harassed women online, prosecutors argued, and even offered his Facebook followers $5,000 to grab a strand of Hillary Clinton’s hair during her book tour. Shkreli, who faces up to 20 years in prison, apologized saying that he did not expect anyone to take his online comments seriously.

“He does not need to apologize to me. He should have apologized to the government, the Secret Service, and Hillary Clinton,” said U.S. District Judge Kiyo Matsumoto, in revoking his bond.

There's a scene set at the beginning of Joker's Vietnam tour where a prostitute offers her services..."me so horny, me love you long time."

It's application to Martin Shkreli, who is more likely to be beaten to death by someone whose mom can't afford her Daraprim anymore, should be all too obvious.

I think the confinement with fellow inmates in his correctional facility may be able to wipe that smirking grin off his very punchable face.
To be clear: I would never condone prison rape. That kind of violence is abhorent, even when visited upon the most despicable (deplorable?) of incarcerees. But, just the overwhelming fear of it -- and other aspects of penal confinement -- might actually wake his mind up to the fact that he is no longer in control, and those who are in control have many different priorities than those to which he has become accustomed. Such a realization might be a life-altering event for him. Possibly, but -- sadly -- not probably. Time will tell.

And, for what it's worth, I base this response not upon any personal experience (there, but for the grace of dog, go I), nor upon what is and has been portrayed in mass media, mostly on pay-cable channels; but rather upon my education which included courses in criminal sociology.

Unfortunately, prison rape is all to common in most American penal systems. My joking aside it is a real risk when incarcerated and most men fear that much worse than serving the time. Having the crap repeatedly beat out of you or worse is also a risk for inmates unaffiliated with a gang. I do not believe any prison gang would have him, including the skin heads.

Small, delicate younger men are most at risk for abuse. This POS fits that bill to a T.The fact of what he did to be locked up will not be lost on the other inmates as well. He will probably be isolated and/or segregated protective custody.

I guess Martin Shkreli hasn't got a fu**en clue what to do when one is "free on bond"

Its more than just his moral compass being off....I mean literally, when I watch him interviewed and hear him speak and watch his facial expressions - this man has some serious mental deficit and there is something very wrong with him. His counsel might have a better chance at defending him if they use the insanity plea.

I really truly have to wonder, where is this guys' family and why are they not trying to stop him from this stupid shit?

I'll be honest, I have no sympathy for the things he did that caused him to be found guilty, What I do not understand is why he continues to act so peculiar. Is it that he can't help himself due to some disorder?

Is he really that much of a person that has no empathy for himself and others and doesn't understand that actions have consequences?

This one is a head scratcher.

I just read a few stories about this sociopath and his "followers," and it is just so depressing to know that such a horrible person would have fans.

But then, his fans are the alt-right assholes we've been hearing so much about in the past few years. Mostly young men of wealthy families who are so spoiled rotten they can't think of anything better to do than to be assholes just for the sake of pissing people off.

To them, the most horrific thing that has ever happened to America is the rise of "political correctness." They live to destroy that and any kind of human kindness. I wonder if their parents know what monsters they've created.
