Trump encourages Rick Scott to run for Senate

Source: The Hill

BY BEN KAMISAR - 09/14/17 11:29 AM EDT

President Trump encouraged Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) to run for Senate in 2018 as he spoke in Florida to survey the damage from Hurricane Irma.

Trump made the comments during an address in Fort Meyers, standing alongside his wife, Melania, Vice President Mike Pence, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Scott and others responsible for coordinating the response to the storm that hit Florida over the weekend.

"I have to say, what do I know, but I hope this man right here, Rick Scott, runs for the Senate," Trump said. "I don't know what he's going to do, but I know that at a certain point, it ends for you, and we can't let it end."

Scott, whose term expires in 2018, has flirted with a bid for Senate and is considered the GOP's top candidate to run against Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) in 2018. Some Republicans also believe that Scott's response to the hurricane has raised his profile in the state and could be good experience to cite if he decides to run.

To use a National disaster to promote Rick Scott's future Political ambitions.

Let us not forget that Rick Scott defrauded Medicare for hundreds of millions when running for Governor. Scott has a record also of rejecting Medicaid expansion for poorer Floridians under the ACA.

Democrats would be wise to bring up the rest of Rick Scott's record.

scott is a weird one. Very unpopular, but he seems to just keep getting elected. Nelson is sort of liked, but not really cared about iykwim. I just moved from N. FL - btw, where I lived for more than a decade.

Scott had a huge bank account and is willing to spend it to win. Nelson hasn't had a tough opponent in a long time. It will likely be a close race.

But I would really like him to just leave public service forever - guy is a tool with little empathy towards people .

Of course drumpf wants more criminals in government, more people who are totally on the take for themselves and who disdain the poor and brown folks. Someone who cheats to win is drumpfs' kind of guy. I don't think Scott could win over Nelson, but with hackable electronic voting machines, who knows if he could steal it? I truly don't think he won governor either, just stole the vote both times. Too many people hated him and were burned by him as head of HCA, and he still won???
