In a stunning admission, a White House official told Politico, We really arent sure what the impact will be of Senate Republicans latest effort to repeal and replace Obamacare.
The concession from an unnamed White House official comes as Senate Republicans are facing fierce criticism from industry and trade groups, governors and other state officials and health policy experts for the rushed process they are are using to get the new Graham-Cassidy repeal bill through the Senate before the Sept. 30 deadline for passing it with a simple majority vote.
Both Democrat and Republican House members have expressed concern over the process of crafting the legislation, especially efforts to push for a vote before the Congressional Budget Office has a chance to make full projections on the cost of the bill and the numbers of people who would lose insurance coverage.
In its letter to Senate leadership, the group of governors whose opposition alarmed the White House, according to Politico asked senators to abandon the Graham-Cassidy bill and work on crafting bipartisan legislation that would stabilize insurance markets. They urged senators to use the regular order method of writing a bill, rather than rushing the process.

We need to get used to this, every advance made by Obama and for that matter in 50 years will be undone.

(59,498 posts)and the Republicans, who never ever helped because of partisanship, for destroying what people had. The only people who are not independently wealthy not hurt are those from the deep red states that did not expand healthcare.

(23,061 posts)I really think the 2nd driving force is that it takes money, especially over the long haul, from the poor and working class healthcare and they will give every penney +++++ to themselves and the rich. So, in 10 years, if this passed and nothing changed, everyone who was on Medicaid before will have no funding for their healthcare, including people in nursing homes. Repugs don't care about the effects long term because they think within 10 years they will have succeeded in disallowing Democrats to vote in sufficient numbers that they are the ruling party forever and are free to treat us like serfs, with no real rights whatsoever.

(3,997 posts)it is a pure money grab (steal Medicare, Medicaid, Obamacare $). But, demographically, if they fail to do so now in only a handful of years, enough boomers will have retired to really hit the Federal Government for those bucks. Hence, republiscums really need to bake the cake now or in the next year or so for their massive tax cuts for the rich and corporations. Then when current and future seniors start carping about health care costs, they can say sorry, no money!
That's what this is all about: fail to massively cut health costs now and bye-bye to those tax cuts!

(10,279 posts)get their healthcare through ObamaCare -- demand that their insurance be removed and that the 1% get a big reduction. The worst outcome for Congressional GOPers is to enact Graham-Cassidy. The second worst is that they defeat it.

(10,749 posts)We're going to bomb North Korea. We don't know what the full impact will be. Hell, we don't know exactly where it is or how many good Koreans will die, but we're going to do it anyway.
We're going to terminate DACA. Some people say that, DACA enrollees' impact on the US economy is in the billions. We don't believe that. Or really care all that much. We're going to do it anyway.
We're rolling back environmental protections and drilling in national parks. There may be problems. We just don't know. No one knows. Because we haven't asked. But we just don't care. So we're going to do it anyway.
We're going to withdraw from NATO and the Paris Accord, and the Iran Agreement. Some people say that could be a problem. But we don't feel like asking for more information. And, really, we just don't care. So - repeat after me - we're going to do it anyway.
