Collins 'leaning against' voting for the Graham-Cassidy bill
Source: Portland Press Herald
U.S. Sen. Susan Collins all but said she would vote no on an Affordable Care Act repeal bill on Friday morning at an event in Portland.
Im leaning against the bill, the Maine Republican said after listing a series of serious deficiencies in the Graham-Cassidy repeal bill.
She said Graham-Cassidy undermines pre-existing conditions, a major flaw in the bill.
Im reading the fine print on Graham-Cassidy, Collins said. She said insurers could charge sky-high rates to people with pre-existing conditions. The premiums would be so high they would be unaffordable.

(11,256 posts)There's nothing here to consider. It's an awful bill that should be rejected without a second thought. She shouldn't be "leaning against it," and there's nothing to analyze. All she's doing with this statement is to suggest that it's a close call.

(26,273 posts)but that they are close to it and if she decides she likes the offer then she will happily fuck over millions of americans.

(6,551 posts)She voted against the bill in July, against great pressure from McConnell.
Collins is one of only a very few Republicans who have voted against her party in the Senate. Yes, she often gives in but sometimes she does not.
If she rejects the bill, that increases the chances that Murkowski will oppose it, too.

(6,551 posts)But if she stands against the G-C bill, she will deserve all the thanks she will get from the 76% of the public who currently oppose this piece of crap.

(24,324 posts)But, shit I don't have to read all the fine print to know what to do.
How fucking hard can it be?
Sorry to rant.. not at you...

(43,111 posts)They're trying to appear to pass the bill to feed their base and Trump, defeat it by a nose to bait their base with red meat outrage at liberals, keep Obamacare because it's popular but call it something else, and make off with the equity for themselves and their rich benefactors.
No wonder they can't pass anything! They're just too conflicted. This is bad policy improperly distilled. There is no consensus to do anything at all about healthcare, in part because they haven't put in the time and work to legislate.

(31,109 posts)still supports it?
Why is this not the biggest news story since
I mean an entire political party openly trying to kill millions of it's own constituents?

(2,001 posts)I HATE to say it but I think there gonna ram this bitch thru, The bill already promises Alaska and Maine a shitload more funding well above all the other states. As far as McCain, he knows that if he does it again the republicans will treat him like a diseased dog.

(16,173 posts)Then she can "vote against" and they get their legislation passed and she can go back to Maine looking like she tried to stand up for the little guy.
I take this as a bad sign for us.
