Conservative theologians accuse pope of spreading heresy

Source: Associated Press

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Several dozen tradition-minded Roman Catholic theologians, priests and academics have formally accused Pope Francis of spreading heresy with his 2016 opening to divorced and civilly remarried Catholics.

In a 25-page letter delivered to Francis last month and provided Saturday to The Associated Press, the 62 signatories issued a "filial correction" to the pope — a measure they said hadn't been employed since the 14th century.

The letter accused Francis of propagating seven heretical positions concerning marriage, moral life and the sacraments with his 2016 document "The Joy of Love" and subsequent "acts, words and omissions."

The initiative follows another formal act by four tradition-minded cardinals who wrote Francis last year asking him to clarify a series of questions, or "dubbia," they had about his 2016 text.

Only when speaking ex cathedra, which has happened twice in the ENTIRE history of Roman Catholicism.

I was taught what I wrote in Catechism (And I concede that you are correct. ) It may be by the time this came up we had a, lay teacher who was more ferocious and rabidly Catholic than any nun. And having lapsed long ago I never bothered to check what I was taught. A story for another day is that this teacher was the reason several mother's, mine included, yanked is out of catechism never to be sent back.

Only two?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papal_infallibility

Prior to the solemn definition of 1870, there were other decrees which fit the definition of ex cathedra, for example, Pope Boniface VIII in the bull Unam Sanctam of 1302,[7][8][9] and Pope Pius IX in the Papal constitution Ineffabilis Deus of 1854.[10][11]

I thought I fixed it but I guess it switched it back.

And yes, only two where the Pope has declared he is speaking ex cathedra.

One was for the perpetual virginity of Mary and the other was on her assumption.

There are others some claim fit the bill, but only twice has the Pope made the claim. From a website on Canon Law

There are a lot of them in my predominantly Catholic hometown.

Their common denominator seems to be hate and intolerance, hidden behind a facade of holier than thou hypocrisy.

Fortunately, groups like the Benedictine Sisters are here as well, working to clean up the mess made by the enablers of those who hate the poor and minorities.

"None of the signatories of the new letter is a cardinal, and the highest-ranking churchman listed is actually someone whose organization has no legal standing in the Catholic Church: Bishop Bernard Fellay, superior of the breakaway Society of St. Pius X. Several other signatories are well-known admirers of the old Latin Mass which Fellay's followers celebrate."

From the link in the OP.

Or televangelists.

Judas got 30 pieces of silver, but just once, for selling Christ.
Pat Robertson, Jim Bakker and their ilk get millions of dollars repeatedly for selling Christ.
Judas was a fool for doing a one-time sale.

If they're involved, this probably doesn't mean much. They were excommunicated for 20 years, under John Paul II; they tend towards anti-semitism and misogyny. They are very fringe.
