Graham pushes back on working with Democrats on health care reform

Source: The Hill

BY JULIA MANCHESTER - 09/24/17 10:00 AM EDT

Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-S.C.) on Sunday pushed back on the possibility of working with Democrats on heath care reform, saying ObamaCare is a placeholder for "BernieCare" for Democrats.

“I’ve come to conclude that ObamaCare is a placeholder for BernieCare in the Democratic world," Graham said on ABC's "This Week," adding that there is no bipartisan process at this point for moving forward on health care reform.

Graham's comments come as he and Senate Republican leadership scramble to get GOP votes for the GOP's latest repeal and replace legislation, the Graham-Cassidy bill which Graham co-sponsored with Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.).

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) announced on Friday that he would be voting against the legislation, saying he wanted to opt for a bipartisan solution that follows the "regular process" of hearings and committee discussion. McCain's announcement is a near-fatal blow to the legislation, which now needs every other Republican vote in the conference to pass. Graham said he respects McCain's decision but "I just disagree with him here."

2. So we MUST retake the Senate, House, and White House and pass single payer

Also we need to strengthen Medicare and shore up social security (taking away the income cap would go a long ways).

Real DEMOCRATS have said many times that they're willing to work with Republicans on improving the ACA; they all know it's not perfect. But perfect is sometimes the enemy of the good; certainly in this case, at this time. We need to focus on defeating HellCare.

15. "work with Republicans on improving the ACA"... isn't it time to agree to bid drug prices for all?

If there's one notion that nobody's going to voice opposition to when there's a microhone around, this is it.
You can't win an election saying you want drugs to be expensive and not bid upon.
Make 'em line up on this issue.
It can decide upcoming elections.

What, exactly has he done for his constituents and others? The most memorable thing I remember about him is when he went to Iraq with McCain. They went to a market, heavily protected with helicopters overhead. He claimed it was really safe. Then he gushed about finding two throw rugs for only $5 !!! Fabulous, Lindsey, just fabulous.

“I’ve come to conclude that ObamaCare is a placeholder for BernieCare in the Democratic world,"

What was in his head:

“My corporate donors have come to conclude that ObamaCare is a placeholder for BernieCare in the Democratic world,"

Guess that is the predetermined talking point for the town hall and rest of the month. I suppose the Democratic Party could try something like Trumpdontcare/Lindseydontcare/GOPdontcare, but I am actually now feeling confident we will not need to.
