President Donald Trump insists his criticism of National Football League players who kneel during renditions of the national anthem ― a means of protesting police brutality across the country ― is not racial in nature.

“This has nothing to do with race. I’ve never said anything about race,” Trump told reporters in Bedminster, New Jersey, on Sunday.

“I think the owners should do something about it. It’s very disrespectful to our flag and our country,” he added.

In a Friday speech in Alabama, Trump called NFL players who kneel “sons of bitches,” and then doubled down on his criticism in a series of follow-up posts on Twitter.

what is racist about a lot of what he says. He just isn't a nuanced enough thinker to understand that you can be racist without saying "race" or naming a race. Same way he doesn't see his remarks about women as being misogynist. The connections are just too abstract for his little brain. His statement implies that the players are basically the owners'
property, and that the players do not have any right to think,
speak or act as they wish or in behalf of their own interests.

This country, and everything in it, was owned by rich, white men
when it was created back in 1776. Even 250 years later, those are
the people still holding power and the constituency which Trump
represents and embodies.

There is only one word which describes what is going on politically
in our country : APARTHEID. We live in a two-tiered society,
dominated by rich, white men of privilege. Anyone outside that clique
is considered by them to be an illegitimate, lesser person -- the
"other" Trump always refers to; the sons of bitches -- and they are
treated as such:

African Americans
Latino Americans -- especially of Mexican descent
Immigrants - especially those of color
Women
Muslims -- especially those of color
LGBTQ people

It has been said by many others: If Tom Brady was taking a knee
during the national anthem, Trump would not be making a sound.
