Tom Brady on K&C: 'I certainly disagree with what [Donald Trump] said'

Source: WEEI-Sports Radio Network

RYAN HANNABLE
SEPTEMBER 25, 2017 - 7:09 AM

On Friday night, President Donald Trump had some pointed comments towards the NFL when it comes to players protesting during the national anthem.

“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. Out. He’s fired. He’s fired’,” the president said at a rally in Alabama.

Speaking Monday morning on Kirk & Callahan, Tom Brady, who linked arms with some of his teammates to show unity during the anthem on Sunday, said he disagreed with what the president said.

“Yeah, I certainly disagree with what he said. I thought it was just divisive," Brady said. "Like I said, I just want to support my teammates. I am never one to say, ‘Oh, that is wrong. That is right.’ I do believe in what I believe in. I believe in bringing people together and respect and love and trust. Those are the values that my parents instilled in me. That is how I try and live every day. I have been blessed to be in locker rooms with guys all over the United States over the course of my career. Some of my great friends are from Florida, Virginia, New York, Montana, Colorado, Texas. The one thing about football is it brings so many guys together — guys you would never have the opportunity to be around. Whether it was in college, and all the way into the pros. We’re all different, we’re all unique. That is what makes us all special.”

-snip-

“Yeah, I have a lot of respect for the players around the league and for obviously my teammates," he said. "I said after the game I just love my teammates and it takes a lot to play in the NFL. The guys that have played in the past really paved the way for us and what I thought in that post is that is what makes this game great - players, coaches that come together for one goal, to try and go out there and do the best we can do every week. It certainly is not an easy game. It’s intense. You sacrifice a lot. We’re all making a choice to do that. There’s no - we love doing that and I love being out there being out there playing with my teammates. It’s a great blessing in my life. That’s kind of how I felt.”

"Congratulations on a tremendous campaign. You have dealt with an unbelievable slanted and negative media, and have come out beautifully – beautifully. You’ve proved to be the ultimate competitor and fighter. Your leadership is amazing. I have always had tremendous respect for you, but the toughness and perseverance you have displayed over the past year is remarkable. Hopefully tomorrow’s election results will give the opportunity to make America great again. Best wishes for great results tomorrow.

Bill"

Can we "tell it to them", or is that still out of bounds because they are "your guys"?

Donald Trump isn't doing much winning, but that didn't stop Patriots owner Robert Kraft from treating him like a champion.

USA Today reporter Henry McKenna confirmed Trump received a Patriots Super Bowl ring through former White House Director of Communications Anthony Scaramucci. The piece of jewelry is from the team's historic comeback against the Falcons in Super Bowl 51.

This has happened before, and always with the same result. If something actually has a sufficient following, boycotts aren't effective. If they weren't enough to get Limbaugh off the air, they certainly won't be enough to hurt the NFL. Besides, do you actually believe that a president with a 40% approval rating can get people to boycott the NFL?

He is President of the United States. He's in office. He's not just some asshole on Twitter anymore, he IS the asshole on Twitter. The fact there are people here still diminishing the harm he's doing is mind numbing.

Yes, it is unprecedented for the President of the United States to do this shit? You don't get that? This isn't at all odd to you?

If he's so irrelevant, why would the owners, Goodell, Kraft or Brady bother to say anything at all? The POTUS just went after their company and demanded they change policy or he's going to advocate a boycott. It is outrageous.

get even his own party's support for his legislation. He is the president and he's also some asshole on twitter that likes to inject himself into things that aren't his business.

If Trump calls for a boycott, how effective do YOU think it will be? Do you believe that Trump has a lot of support and that his bully pulpit will have any significant value on this issue?

People keep calling it illegal? I suppose if you want to stretch the legal definitions of things to places that no prosecutor would ever take it, you could call it illegal, but that doesn't make it so. I don't take trump seriously on this because he's not serious. He likes to get his name in the story, and he likes to get applause for stuff at Alabama rallies, but he won't, and can't, actually do anything here. I worry about his handling of China, North Korea, the economy, the environment, and a million other things, but I don't worry about him injecting himself into these pop culture issues. As far as I'm concerned, it's time spent not fucking up important things.

Nothing in there addresses the harmful shit Trump has said on a daily basis for two years now. It's the fact he's attacking "his teammates" who he knows (and make him and the league money) that he's bothered by.

It's no different than when you read these articles where a Hispanic person gets deported in a conservative Trump town and they all get upset about it because "He's one of US".

Tom Brady better say that or he's done.
That's a team sport emphasis on TEAM. The risk of getting hurt builds loyalty and emotional bonds.

A football player perceived as racist won't last one day. He'll be finished off in tackle drills.
