NEW YORK (AP) The Latest on Anthony Weiner's sentencing (all times local):
10:55 a.m.
Anthony Weiner must report to prison by Nov. 6 to begin serving his 21-month sentence for sexting with a 15-year-old girl.
As his sentence was announced Monday, the former Democratic congressman from New York dropped his head into his hand and wept, then stared straight ahead. After the hearing ended and Judge Denise Cote left the bench, he sat in his seat for several minutes, continuing to cry.
Weiner was also fined $10,000. After his sentence is served, he must undergo internet monitoring and must have no contact with his victim. He must also enroll in a sex-offender treatment program.
Before announcing the sentence, Cote said there was "no evidence of deviant interest in teenagers or minors" on Weiner's part. She also said he is finally receiving effective treatment for what she said has been described as "sexual hyperactivity."

Anthony Weiner sentenced to 21 months in federal prison
By Matt Zapotosky September 25 at 11:03 AM
Disgraced former U.S. representative Anthony Weiner, whose exchange of illicit messages with a teen wound up playing a critical role in the 2016 presidential election, was sentenced Monday to 21 months in prison, authorities said.
The penalty marks a stunning downfall for the New York Democrat whose propensity for sending lewd photos to women repeatedly derailed his career in politics, and in a roundabout way might also have impacted Hillary Clintons bid to become president.
It was federal authorities investigation of Weiner that led them to emails of his wife, top Clinton aide Huma Abedin, and the discovery of those emails ultimately caused the FBI, on the eve of the election, to reopen the probe of Clintons use of a private email server.
Weiner pleaded guilty in March to transferring obscene material to a minor, stemming from interactions he had with a 15-year-old who later described them and released images to the Daily Mail.
Federal prosecutors had asked for a sentence between 21 and 27 months, while Wieners defense attorneys had argued for a penalty that did not include jailtime. Wieners defense attorneys cast him as a man with an addiction problem, and asserted the teen had reached out to him hoping to generate material for a book deal and to influence the presidential election.
Weiner apologized for what he had done.

(25,183 posts)There are people who consider the drug laws a form of tyranny in this country, but you don't have a lot of people who are sympathetic to a perv who involves minors in his way of getting his jollies.
Thinking about it, it wouldn't surprise me if he thought his life was over with, and just decided to take an early exit from it. I don't think his crying was an act, especially after the judge left the courtroom. The mind that deals heavily in denial probably believed everything his lawyers said about the reasons that he might well get probation. That just came to a screeching halt today, he can't even appeal the sentence under the terms of his plea deal.
About the only thing he's got left to play in the denial department is hope of a pardon or commutation from Trump. And it wouldn't surprise me if Trump did that, if only to say "Thanks!"

(22,651 posts)was a target of the republican party and took the bait. He may also know insider stories about elected people friendly with Russian diplomats & probably has 'rooster' tales to tell about the white house gym-times.
He could make a living off a decent book, if he gets help to write it & moves it out fast.

(10,500 posts)But the GOP-controlled FBI was always going to find a bogus reason to do that. They knew they had this route to utilize months in advance. If it hadn't existed I strongly suspect they would have found a different route.

(59,498 posts)1) It brought back the email story
2) It brought back the disgusting Weiner
3) Many thought it showed that Weiner had access to inner circle emails because they were on a shared laptop. In fact, this did not have to be the case.
Very unfair, but many might have wondered after the last set of tests why Hillary Clinton kept Huma Abedin on her campaign. (I realize that many here knew that HRC considered her almost a daughter and that she was one of her closest aides. Still, Huma herself should have realized she was replaceable for the campaign and asked HRC to let her leave and deal with her life which was then in chaos. After the election, HRC could give her any role HRC wanted to))

(59,498 posts)spent time going through the whole embarrassing story at length. Remember that the Trump/Billy Bush story was out there then and was a huge negative for Trump. This story and the right wing bringing up every Bill Clinton story, even if not true, in an attempt to equate two things that were absolutely not the same, especially as neither were Hillary Clinton.
I agree that the idea of future litigation was the bigger factor.

Maybe Don the Groper will thank him with a cabinet position once he gets out of the big house. Weiner would fit right in.

That man doesn't deserve anybody's sympathy. He had every opportunity to reform and chose not to and probably wrecked a few people's lives in the process.
