San Juan Mayor Responds To Trump: 'You Dont Put Debt Above People'

Source: Talking Points Memo

By NICOLE LAFOND Published SEPTEMBER 26, 2017 11:01 AM

The mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico asked President Trump on Tuesday to focus on the people in crisis in the U.S. territory instead of Puerto Rico’s debt.

After being criticized for obsessing over NFL protests instead of the devastation in Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma and Maria, Trump finally tweeted about the crisis Monday night, but seemingly blamed the U.S. territory’s debt and “broken infrastructure” for the widespread wreckage.

“Texas and Florida are doing great, but Puerto Rico, which was already suffering from broken infrastructure and massive debt, is in deep trouble,” he tweeted, saying the electrical grid was already in “terrible shape” and mentioning the “billions” the territory owes Wall Street.

In response, San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz asked Trump to treat hurricane relief and Puerto Rico’s debt as “two different issues.” “With all due respect, these are two different topics,” she said on CNN’s “New Day” Tuesday morning. “One topic is the massive debt, which we know we have and it’s been dealt with. But you don’t put debt above people, you put people above debt. So, what we are asking for and what — what I’m asking for, and this is my comment, nobody else’s comment — is let’s deal with the two issues in a separate way.”

This act requires all imports to be made on American owed ships. Others have to pay exorbitant fees that drive up the cost of consumer goods. The same stupid law applies to Hawaii. But then again the resident idiot probably doesn't even know that Hawaii is a state. I lay much of the blame on the MSM for his election. The couldn't resist publishing the Repukian crap about Hillary's email, but hardly a word about the thousands of suits leveled against Trump, his three major bankruptcies, bilking thousands with his phony "university", just to name a few of his illegal activities. He is a nothing more than a two-bit shyster that should be in jail. He is such a admirer of Western independence, however, the fact is that in the pioneer West he would have been tarred and feathered and run out of town. I have only this to say to every person who supports this unprincipled scoundrel. You are not Americans, but nothing more than common variety racists with a soul as black as Trump's heart. I wouldn't give these nincompoops the sweat off my privates if the were dying of thirst.

...where Maria made landfall. Their houses are still standing and everyone is alright for the time being, but they live on a mountain; their road is gone and they are isolated, including my wife's 93-year old Abuela. They have rationed down to one meal a day and clean water is growing scarce.

Trump...shut the fuck up about the goddamned NFL, and marshal Congress and the military to get real relief to the Island before people start dying of PREVENTABLE causes.

I would think U.S. helicopters could still drop supplies to such areas, if Rump would just send them.

actual American citizens but Drumpf is such a fucking asshole, he's like let them starve, they are just brown people after all and don't count for as much as the good ole' boys in TX and FL that voted for him. He's the most disgusting, horrible, inhuman, greedy, immoral, uncaring, criminal fraud that has ever inhabited the halls of our government. I used to think Hamilton was horrible, then it was GW, but orange assface beats them all with the added feature of being a total traitor.
