North Korea taps GOP analysts to better understand Trump and his messages

Source: The Washington Post

By Anna Fifield September 26 at 11:45 AM

BERN, Switzerland North Korean government officials have been quietly trying to arrange talks with Republican-linked analysts in Washington, in an apparent attempt to make sense of President Trump and his confusing messages to Kim Jong Uns regime.

The outreach began before the current eruption of threats between the two leaders but will probably become only more urgent as Trump and Kim have descended into name-calling that, many analysts worry, sharply increases the chances of potentially catastrophic misunderstandings.

Their number one concern is Trump. They cant figure him out, said one person with direct knowledge of North Koreas approach to Asia experts with Republican connections.

There is no suggestion that the North Koreans are interested in negotiations about their nuclear program they instead seem to want forums for insisting on being recognized as a nuclear state and the Trump administration has made clear it is not interested in talking right now.

Unlike North Korea, leadership in the US goes through cycles

They recognize that something's not right with him... thank goodness they're not automatically seeing his words and actions as intentional or rational. I'm really relieved to see that they aren't automatically taking him and his words seriously.

although they might also be planning contingencies since they are realizing that the man in the Oval office is a true lunatic and spoiled brat like Kim Jung-Un - both thrust as children into the realm of international wealth and both harboring unrealistic expectations that others must worship them due to their perceived rank in the world (although the large civil service infrastructure here can sometimes mitigate the impulsiveness).

BTW, this is exactly what Trump wants.

From the US perspective, North Korea will not attack first. They have too much to lose. The US will not attack first, because they want moral high ground. Chances are this is a stalemate unless someone screws up (like a missile falling on Japan on the way to the Pacific).
