Trump delivering aid to Puerto Rico: 'This is a thing called the Atlantic Ocean, this is tough stuff

Source: The Hill

BY JACQUELINE THOMSEN - 09/26/17 03:06 PM EDT

President Trump on Tuesday said providing supplies and other relief to Puerto Rico is more difficult than similar disaster efforts in Florida and Texas because the U.S. territory is a more isolated island in the Atlantic Ocean.

"We right now have our top people from FEMA, and they have been there," he said at a White House press conference with Spain's prime minister. "We are unloading on an hourly basis, massive loads of water and food and supplies for Puerto Rico. And this isn’t like Florida where we can go right up the spine or like Texas where we go right down the middle and we distribute," Trump said. "This is a thing called the Atlantic Ocean, this is tough stuff.”

Trump's response to the disaster in Puerto Rico from Hurricane Maria, which has left the island without power, has come under criticism from Democrats who say the president's focus has been on protests in the NFL and not disaster relief.

Trump has rejected those suggestions, saying Puerto Rico is getting the same response as Texas and Florida, which were also hit by hurricanes in the last several weeks.

This seems to be a reoccurring theme with this blubbering moron. We could do the Berlin Air Drops, we can put an entire army in theatre with in a week, but we can't get water in a week.

This fucker wants to kill us as fast as he can.

Not that Cheeto Benito isn't an A-hole, but I can imagine the logistics being a real nightmare; this being said as a Californian who lives right on a faultline

a Coast guard base and an air station, and the national guard, and an Army base. There is also a former Naval base. Our military has ways of getting stuff to places that don't have these facilities.

The US has airlifted supplies into Berlin which was surrounded by Soviet occupied East Germany and into the Pusan perimeter in South Korea which was completely surrounded by the North.

We have highly skilled people who can handle ANY logistics problem on this planet.
We've been doing this for at least 75 years - we know how to do it.

These guys could get a cratered airport up and running in a day.
And as another poster says, we have military facilities right at hand, and
the hurricane is no longer shooting back.

But then we have a can't-don't leadership team, so there you go.

we *COULD* do this, if this was a place that had people of the right skin color and who voted for Trump

I wonder if you could even call it a 'leadership team'. That would imply leadership

The Berlin Airlift allowed the resident of West Berlin almost 10,000 tons of fuel, food and water every day for three months.

The infrastructure and the means are there. A weak-willed president, supported by many, many idiots consistently rationalizing why-it-can't-be-done is all that stands in the way.

And yet they can give more money to the military than even the military says they need. If only people were not so fearful of some things and more attuned to what the real fears are. I have a feeling that the storms we have seen over the last month or so are going to be a regular thing. But there are going to be cuts to FEMA instead of better planning and personnel.

Rump has the mentality of someone that is still living in the 80s.

Neither Texas or Florida experienced even a fraction of the devastation from Irma that Puerto Rico did with Maria. Nowhere except Puerto Rico were all the phone poles and wires pulled down. If their infrastructure was so bad, why is that? Is it that the US hasn't been making the needed investments for decades?

He dislikes Puerto Rico and US VI because they are brown and black people for the most part and racist fatty whitey doesn't like them. Both groups are also substantially more poor than those of us on the mainland, another reason he disdains them. This is all about his like and dislikes, the help would already be there if they had voted for him in the election.

And they are like floating cities. They are huge and can carry a lot of stuff, like food, water, medicine, generators, gasoline, etc. They have hospitals with doctors and nurses and surgeons. And they have nuclear power, enough to share! And they can carry an entire fleet of helicopters and the manpower and fuel and spare parts to service them.

And they fucking float on the ocean and can get to anywhere in the world.

And the USA has more of them than the fucking entire rest of the world all fucking put together!!!!

Mr. Drumpf! Put them to work in PR saving lives!
