Trump says Republicans have the votes to pass healthcare later

Source: Reuters

SEPTEMBER 27, 2017 / 7:59 AM / UPDATED AN HOUR AGO

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republicans have enough support to pass their healthcare overhaul but not this week, President Donald Trump said on Wednesday, one day after Senate Republicans admitted defeat over their effort to repeal and replace Obamacare.

Trump, in a pair of tweets early Wednesday morning, said “we will have the votes for Healthcare but not for the reconciliation deadline of Friday.” He also pointed to “very positive signs” from several lawmakers but did not name them, or state the basis for his claim.

Trump insists repeal bill would pass if GOP had more time

BY JULIA MANCHESTER - 09/27/17 09:31 AM EDT

President Trump on Wednesday insisted ObamaCare repeal in the Senate would be possible if he just had more time.

After nine months in which the GOP has been unable to get a repeal bill to his desk despite holding control of the House and Senate and not facing a filibuster, Trump insisted Republicans were close but could just not get the job done by Friday.

In a tweet, he said there were "positive signs from Alaska," an apparent reference to Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), who has been undecided on the most recent GOP healthcare bill and opposed an earlier repeal measure.

While Trump said Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) was out, he also referred to positive signs from two others, who he did not name.

That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more. It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.

If you don't have the votes now, you don't have the votes later. Unless you are planning to use pod people.
