Venezuela Prepares for War With U.S.

Source: Newsweek

Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro called on his nation's military leaders Tuesday to prepare for war against the U.S. days after the Trump administration banned Venezuelan officials from entering the nation.

"We have been shamelessly threatened by the most criminal empire that ever existed and we have the obligation to prepare ourselves to guarantee peace," said Maduro, who wore a green uniform and a military hat as he spoke with his army top brass during a military exercise involving tanks and missiles. "We need to have rifles, missiles and well-oiled tanks at the ready....to defend every inch of the territory if needs be," he added.

The Trump administration has taken a hard stance against Maduro's regime by banning money lending to Venezuela's government or its state oil company PDVSA, and passing sanctions against Maduro and his top officials.

Maduro referenced the sanctions during his speech at the military base. As he spoke, Russian military plans flew in the sky as part of the training exercise, Agence France-Presse reported.

Trump must be getting kickbacks from petty dictators around the world for gratuitously threatening military action against them.

We won't buy your F-18s from Boeing because of the tariffs that just got put on Bombardier aircraft. That's a good enough reason for him to go to war.

They will use this rationalization to attack us and our allies. We areally are in trouble and the military best rein his fat orange ass in.

Guess the nearly trillion $ defense budget gives him a woody and he thinks he can threaten everyone.

However Trumps words might have done the impossible. He might have just thrown him a life preserver.

Step 1: Blame it all on some boogeyman everybody can hate.

Step 2: "Sacrifices have to be made to fight that boogeyman." (Those sacrifices are your money, your rights and your freedoms.)

Step 3: "You're either with us or against us." (Polarization.)

Step 4: "If you're not with us, you're automatically against us." (Dissent is immoral.)

Step 5: "We need dramatic action to fight those who are against us." (Dissent is illegal.)

Step 6: "There is no need for free elections, because we all want the same: What I want. If you do not want what I want, you are an enemy of the people." (Examples for this include Mussolini, Hitler, Gaddafi...)

The chances we go to war with Venezuela are slim and none. Venezuela will be spending money it doesn't have to protect itself from a problem that will never come to pass.

How can they afford to build up a military when they can't afford basics for the people?

It's a staple of authoritarian regimes in search of legitimacy.

It pays to remember that the Iron Curtain wasn't imposed by the West, it was just named by the West.
