Paul Ryan: 'It's Misguided To Protest The Anthem And The Flag'

While he made it clear that he believes people have a right to express themselves, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) said Thursday that he thinks the protests during the national anthem at football games are misguided.
Ryan wouldnt comment on President Donald Trumps remarks about the protests because he said he hadnt seen all of Trumps statements. But Ryan defended Trumps stance that the protests are seen as disrespectful because they involves the American flag and the national anthem.
What I dont think people see from the get-go is when you do it on the flag and the anthem, it looks like youre protesting against the ideals of America, the patriotism, the people who put their lives on the line, given their life for the country, he said to reporters Thursday. So I just dont think I think its misguided to protest the anthem and the flag. He said the protests dont translate well because people see it as disrespectful to the country, rather than a political issue.
Thats the point I think some people are missing in this debate, he said.

(9,426 posts)every mention of the kneelers states this protest is against the flag, veterans and the country. Ryan knows better, as do all the gop. They are just joining in the false reports to confuse people. Sadly, their supporters are easily fooled. The Koch brothers and other rich donors are encouraging this false report.

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
If you believe that not everyone is equally free, then it's a pretty good way to protest, even if some people don't get. Many people who don't get it will never get it anyway. Who would have thought that kneeling could be considered disrespectful? Only because Trump saw a PR angle and told them to believe it. There's a mass-hysteria or mass-hypnosis going on. Very scary.
Remember that photo of a lady during the GWB convention wearing a purple bandage to mock Kerry's medal? How can people be so blind? So gullible? So ignorant?

He consulted a Navy Seal about a respectful way to do so.
The point of doing this during the anthem is for visibility.
