Trump: Big decisions ahead on how much to spend on a destroyed Puerto Rico

Source: Washington Post

President Trump on Friday declared that Puerto Rico has been “destroyed” and said “big decisions” lie ahead about how much to spend on rebuilding the U.S. territory.

His ominous tweet drew immediate criticism from Democratic politicians who said Trump is applying a different standard to the island than he did to Texas and Florida when they were recently struck by hurricanes.

“The fact is that Puerto Rico has been destroyed by two hurricanes,” Trump said on Twitter, referring to Hurricane Maria and Hurricane Irma, which also took a heavy toll on the territory before reaching Florida. “Big decisions will have to be made as to the cost of its rebuilding!”

Appearing on MSNBC shortly afterward, Speaker of the New York City Council Melissa Mark-Viverito (D), a native of Puerto Rico, said Trump was treating Puerto Ricans as “second-class citizens.”

“There is a double standard of how Puerto Ricans are being treated,” she said in response to his tweet, calling the Trump administration’s response to the hurricane “deplorable.”

He's prioritizing "REBUILDING". IOW, He's not concerned about human suffering and massive deaths. He's concerned about REAL ESTATE and PROPERTY values! He's concerned about WHO or WHAT will buy and own property for rebuilding. As far as Trumpy is concerned, the dead can be used to pave roads and fertilize the soil. The more, the better.

was more concerned about the balance sheet than the ongoing crisis.

It says something about his supporters that this stuff does not register.

"Fuck you twitler"

And the like.

Put the energy from that anger and disgust patiently but incessantly to work--
Everybody, do whatever you can, even the smallest thing, to help get rid of him and his ilk.

So Trump doesn't care. However, if Puerto Rico doesn't get the help it needs, and soon, I'd bet a lot of people will choose to move to the mainland if they can, which they have the absolute right to do. And once those folks are residents of a mainland state they will be able to vote, and they sure as hell won't be voting for Trump (that's assuming, of course, that his ugly orange ass hasn't been 86'd out of the White House by then).

All Trump thinks about in any given situation is how it affects HIM. Obviously the entire population won't leave Puerto Rico, but even so, maybe Orange Foolius should think about the possibility of a whole bunch of new voters hating his guts.

about encouraging where the at relocation will be. I am thinking Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and possibly Ohio. Florida already seems to be preferred location.

As of 2010, > 120,000. The "problem" with your suggestion is that as noted by another poster, they go where family is and that tends to be dark blue cities or rim areas of those cities (mostly east coast).

That's what he's talking about when he says 'big decisions' will have to be made...

There would be BILLIONS available.

$125 one-way travel voucher; and $22 billion to redevelop the island into a military super fortress.
