Interior Secretary Zinke: Scrutiny Of My Private Plane Travel 'A Little BS'

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke on Friday dismissed scrutiny of his use of private and government planes for trips within the U.S. and abroad as a little BS.
Politico reported Thursday evening that Zinke used a private or military plane for travel in at least four instances. The revelation followed news that Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin all spent taxpayer money on private or government planes for travel within the continental U.S. as well.
Before giving a speech at a Heritage Foundation event, Zinke addressed his travel. Before we get started, Id just like to address, in the words of General Schwarzkopf, a little BS on travel, he told the audience.
Zinke defended his use of private and government planes, arguing that they were the only options that would allow him to meet his schedule.

Yes, hotel food is overpriced. But $16 muffins, $5 sodas, and $8 cups of coffee are still pretty pricey for a government agency -- or anyone.
$16 for a Muffin?! A Justice Department Boondoggle

(29,199 posts)"Every trip was approved by the Ethics Officce"
Remember that the head of the ethics office left shortly after "shart-cannon" was installed as "45"... and the reporting that TRMS has been doing on the naming of the replacement? Of course the ethics office passed on these trips!
Then he said something along the lines of "we got these approved by the ethics office to ensure that I am always ABOVE THE LAW". Freudian slip.
He meant to say "in compliance with the law" or "acting in accordance with the law"... but not ABOVE THE LAW.

... Not only did Zinke charter a $12,000-plus private plane in June for a trip between two airports that run regular commercial flights, but he did so using a plane owned by Wyoming oil and gas executives. Oh, and it meant he got to spend the night at his home. Oh, and he was in Nevada in the first place for .. political purposes ...
Zinke took the private charter flight in late June after giving a motivational speech to the Vegas Golden Knights, the citys new National Hockey League team. The team is owned by Bill Foley, chairman of Fidelity National Financial. Employees and political action committees associated with the financial services company donated a total of $199,523 to Zinkes two congressional campaigns ...
