Dem just 6 points behind in Alabama Senate race: poll

Source: The Hill

Alabama Republican Roy Moore leads Democrat Doug Jones by less than 6 points in a new Senate special election poll that's likely to raise questions about whether the deep-red state is in play.

Moore, the controversial former judge who won Tuesday's GOP primary runoff, leads Moore by a margin of 50.2 percent to 44.5 percent in a new poll conducted by Opinion Savvy and commissioned by Decision Desk HQ. About 5 percent of polled voters said they were undecided.

Democrats are cautiously eying the race in the hopes that Moore's penchant for controversy can help them pull a surprise upset. Moore has a solid base of support among the state's evangelical community, a reliable voting bloc, thanks to being kicked off the state Supreme Court bench twice for disregarding court orders on the separation of church and state and gay marriage.

But he's also drawn serious criticism for both those decisions as well as some controversial comments he's made in the past. He's argued that terror attacks and violence may have been caused by a drift away from religion, that homosexual conduct should be illegal, and said that a Muslim congressman shouldn't be seated in Congress.

I'd say this was close enough to at least mount an energetic challenge.

It's a special election, so it's much more about getting people into the polls. There aren't a bunch of undecideds to win over. The way we win this is to get people to the polls who would otherwise not vote.

This is Alabama. The repub will win by 5-10 points at least. Throwing money at this race is not going to change the outcome.

Besides, if it even were to get close, remember who controls the machines. The Dem would have to be 10 points ahead for this to be a seat up for grabs.

By the time it's all done a vote for the Democratic candidate will mean that an army of gay black Muslim men who kneel during the National Anthem will come into your house and take your guns.

If we make this a referendum on Republican control of the Senate - even if Moore slips up, which he may very well do as he is a loose cannon and if Jones gains traction - we will have helped Moore.

If we make it a referendum on Trump - same thing.

If we make this a referendum on social issues -- even though he is the one out of line with the values of the majority of America - same thing. This is Alabama.

Moore is very extreme. If he can frame it that liberals are attacking him, he might get people to support him who otherwise would stay quiet or even suggest he is too far out.

It may be that the only way we can help is by donating.

I've been, like many Americans, a big fan of Abraham Lincoln, but now I'm questioning his work to disallow Alabama's secession.

Those parasite rednecks, who vote for racists like Trump and Moore while living off the taxes paid by the blue states, should live in their own ignorant filth at their own damned expense.

They take three bucks for every buck they pay from the federal gov't, this to vote consistently for ignoramuses.
