Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a Saturday evening post to the social media platform asked for forgiveness" amid the controversy surrounding the company over its political advertising.
Tonight concludes Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year for Jews when we reflect on the past year and ask forgiveness for our mistakes. For those I hurt this year, I ask forgiveness and I will try to be better, Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook post.
For the ways my work was used to divide people rather than bring us together, I ask forgiveness and I will work to do better," he wrote. "May we all be better in the year ahead, and may you all be inscribed in the book of life.
Facebook last month admitted Russians who may have been connected to the Kremlin purchased ads on the platform during the 2016 presidential race, news that riled liberal groups and lawmakers.

I got locked out of my Facebook page today and the only way back in is to let Kaspersky scan my computer This has happened to a lot of people the past two years.
This only makes Zuckerberg look even more guilty.

(3,232 posts)You should start a thread based on this if it hasn't been done yet. I don't do Facebook, and this just reinforces my decision to abstain. I don't want any outside entity scanning my computer. That's just asking for trouble.

(47,427 posts)I am going to do that in a bit. I had seen a couple things about Kaspersky on Rachel's show and Richard Engel interviewed the man a couple months ago. As soon as I saw the name "Kaspersky" in the Facebook message, I literally yelled "No" out loud. What the hell are thinking? Is Zuckerberg really that naive?
FakeNoose
(32,639 posts)But you are correct about Kaspersky.
Kaspersky has probably been getting backdoors into all our computers for the last 10+ years. That guy has to be doing something with Putin, even if it's only handing over information.

I encountered a few people who defended Kaspersky software in another thread on the subject, but I don't think you can trust a Russian oligarch. If Putin wants something, they can't say "no". This all adds a new dimension to the social media election issues and the Russian hacks. Kaspersky is on over 400 million computers worldwide, the possibilities are staggering.

(17,912 posts)He's contrite only because his advertising platform / rumor mill got busted. There's no way I'll believe that facebook won't continue to focus on top line growth at any cost. It's all about the money and nothing else....democracy be damned. Hell, he'd probably become even wealthier under a fascist regime.
