Penn State suspends frat after drunk student was unconscious

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (AP) Penn State has suspended a fraternity after a student suspected of drinking there was found unconscious and hospitalized.

University spokeswoman Lisa Powers says the Office of Student council is investigating Delta Tau Deltas possibly involvement. The Associated Press could not immediately reach the fraternity for comment Wednesday. ... The frat is on interim suspension during the investigation.

State College police say they found the 18-year-old male student unconscious on a borough street on Sept. 28. Powers says the student is currently recovering.

All Penn State frats are under a social ban in the wake of the death of student Timothy Piazza of New Jersey, who fell down the stairs at Beta Theta Pi in February after an alcohol-related hazing ritual.

One more Penn State fraternity is facing penalties for dangerous drinking.
....

This is the first real test of the new stricter alcohol policies put in place by Penn State in June in response to the death of Timothy Piazza, 19, after a February pledge party at Beta Theta Pi. The Alpha Upsilon chapter of Beta Theta Pi was banned after that incident and the fraternity and 14 brothers are facing criminal charges.

Penn State had put interim measures in place in February, locking down social functions with alcohol, but lifted that rule for Parents Weekend. That resulted in Sigma Alpha Mus suspension, announced in April. (http://www.centredaily.com/news/local/education/penn-state/article145725234.html)

Kappa Delta Rho remains on a three-year suspension issued in 2015 after allegations of inappropriate behavior documented on a secret Facebook page.

I got rushed because I had a good GPA to offset the nasty ones of some of the special young women in the sorority. Back then I had the looks too, but not the pedigree needed. I have seen frats ruin so many academic careers it is tragic.

They often specialized in a specific field of study or career path. They did good works about town and loyalty cheered at all the school games. They invited their girlfriends and parents to social events that were featured in the Society section of the local newspaper. Well known former members made generous donations, wrote encouraging letters, and gave speeches. I was ecstatic when I dated a greek man, basking in the envy of my girlfriends.

Today the greeks are just the worst kind of trashy social clubs for substance abuse and immature behavior. Many schools have already banned on campus fraternity houses, so why do they even exist now?

They actually used to be even more elite and exclusive and less likely to get in trouble then they are now.

4. If schools can't control students' drinking they should at least teach responsible drinking.

Man this shit is out of control. Don't get me wrong, I love beer but at least know your limits, and schools should be emphasizing safety at parties should you go to them.
