Burr: Russia probe will expose erroneous reporting

Source: Politico

By ELANA SCHOR 10/05/2017 12:02 PM EDT

As President Donald Trump calls on the Senate Intelligence Committee to investigate so-called "fake news," the panel's GOP chairman said Thursday that his investigation into Russian electoral meddling could ultimately discredit some news outlets' reporting.

Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr (R-N.C.) stopped short of endorsing Trump's Thursday morning call for a congressional investigation of the media. But Burr did predict that the final product of his panel's bipartisan inquiry into Moscow's disruption of the 2016 election would illustrate factual errors in some media reports on the issue.

"We're not going to investigate news organizations, but we will use the findings of our report to let the American people hold every news organization accountable for what they portrayed as fact, in many cases without sources — at least, no sources that would admit to it," Burr told POLITICO. "And I think, when we finish our report, we will find that quite a few news organizations ran stories that were not factual," he added.

Some incorrect news stories on the Russia probe, Burr said, have appeared "since yesterday's press conference" that he and committee vice chairman Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) held to provide an update on the status of their long-running inquiry.

his committee's foredrawn conclusions before the investigation is complete. That's a great way to destroy your credibility. How do people so stupid get elected?

the Denver Times and Milwaukee Inquirer and posting links all over the places with the same story in news orgs that don't exist- and they'd have bots linking to bump them to the top in Google. Then they'd change the URL after it peaked and do it all over again w the new URL.
They manipulated Google so much that at times you'd have to go to page 2-3 of results to find and actual
Credible news organization on a political topic.

these Congressional hearings are nothing more than stage plays. They will accomplish nothing and spend a lot of time and money trying to protect tRump. Mueller investigation is the only one that will be credible regardless of the outcome.
